TW mentions of N/zi Germany
alright hi guys long time no see
no I haven't done the posts you've asked for yet and I still fully intend on making them
and you can probably see from the lack of activity that I'm kind of falling out Hetalia
but it's come to my attention that parts of the Hetalia fandom is once again glorifying N/zi Germany
I don't need to explain why this is wrong and if you want to disagree with me in my inbox, I dare you to do it on one condition: no anon. If you're willing to glorify that Germany, I dare you to do it with your blog visible for everyone to see. if you don't, I will delete your ask for it is not worth my time reading. you won't do any good trying to convince a historian that N/zi Germany needs to be glorified.
this is part of the reason why I never did a bar fight series for WW2. people already know what happened in WW2 and I don't need to reexplain it in terms for Hetalia fans.
(the other reason why I didn't do the bar fight series is because WW2 is too complicated to be simplified like that and also I don't see the character Germany as being the perpetrator of WW2. I'll discuss that in another post)
you should all know that Hetalia is a satirical series. you should all know that history must be treated with a certain kind of respect, but you should all know that respect does not equal glorification. we are not all neo-N/zis, although I can't say that there haven't been neo-N/zis in the fandom. we do not need to "bring back WW2 Germany". we do not need to "reteach" this history.
the argument on that "oh it's educational!" is paper thin at best. it's the exact same argument used when discussing Confederate statues in the US. although I won't go as far as to saying that glorifying N/zi Germany would have the same effect as Confederate statues (to intimidate a non-dominant population), but the premise is the same: to remember something that everyone else thinks is wrong. I know history isn't all that pretty (I run this blog) but to depict such a horrible part of history in a "new" light is disrespectful to those who lost their lives and/or rights to such ideologies.
I'm not here to convince you of anything. Only you can change your opinion and I'm not going to force you to do so. But I will say that should you choose to disagree, should you choose to respond negatively to this post, should you believe that fanart of N/zi Germany is okay in this fandom, know that you are not welcome on this blog. I won't speak for the rest of this fandom, but as for me and this blog, you will not be welcome.
now if you want to come at me on my url, which contains APH which as we all know, stands for Axis Powers Hetalia, let me remind you that the Axis was formed in response to the rise of communism in Russia after WW1 and only included Germany and Japan at its beginning. I'm still considering changing the url but for now, it will remain
the APH in my url reflects the usage of the tag when I joined the Hetalia fandom and first made this blog almost a year and a half ago. this was before raids, before people accused the entirety of the Hetalia fandom of glorifying N/zi Germany. a year and a half later, after the raids and after the motion to use HWS instead, I find that the Hetalia fandom is back doing the very thing it was accused of doing. this is not the Hetalia fandom I joined. this is not the Hetalia fandom that I will support and/or remain a part of. I will not stand by a fandom that will trigger others. I may be a small blog overshadowed by cosplay and ask blogs, but I still ask of you: don't make this the Hetalia fandom people will join
