Ciao München, Allo Karlsruhe

Yesterday was our last full day in Munich, and we debated visiting one of the castles that was said to be the inspiration for the Cinderella version, but laziness won out and we just faffed around in the English Garden again, looking for a biergarten. Hirschau is located on the border of the north side of the park, on the other side of the Swan’s Lake. You can’t get near the swans (for good reason!) but the ducks will come straight to you. Alas, we had no bread to offer them :( We visited St. Michael’s and Haus der Kunst after leaving the garden, but neither allowed photography, so have a photo of a kinetic sculpture from the lobby of a hotel instead!

Karlsruhe is significantly more spread out than the other cities we were in, so we reserved a car, for which we received an upgrade.

Husband: (looking at the key fob) But how will we know what car it is?

Me: … it’s a Mercedes.

Him: But what do Mercedes look like?

Me: … whut.

(Both of his parents drive Mercedes and he’s ridden in their cars on multiple occasions. I literally can not even with him sometimes … *headdesk*)

A few more photos around the English garden. Dinner tonight was very simple--we went back to the Hofbräuhaus for beers to relax our feet. I had a wheat beer with limonade (I believe that's called a "Shandy" stateside) and then we went in search of a place that we had seen in the morning during our futile hunt for Cafe Glockenspiel. Neither of us remembered the name, but we remembered an outside placard that proudly stated that they would "pimp your fries." The place turned out to be Ruff's Burgers. And the fries were in fact quite pimp. ;D

After visiting the Hofgarten we made our way into the full English garden, which follows a man-made river. There are areas within the river that function as wavepools, and people surf in it! :O

Alstadt–in the Hofgarten (Part 2)

This morning B proposed a visit to Cafe Glockenspiel, which we never did find, and after marching around in the rain for thirty minutes we gave up and went to the Victorian House for a tea breakfast instead. Still no English breakfast for me! (It’s only served on weekends or bank holidays, sigh.) We settled for eggs and hot chai.

Post breakfast we visited the Hofgarten, which was all abloom for fall and surrounded on all sides with fashion designers, photographers’ studios, and hair salons. Really lovely place. :)

Alstadt, Alstadt, all the time Alstadt (Part 1)

So as I mentioned yesterday, we are currently in Munich. My husband was insistent that we not rest and risk falling asleep after check-in, so we visited Alstadt, an enormous epicenter stuffed with all manner of shops, restaurants, St. Peter’s cathedral (the first photo), and the Hofbräuhaus (almost all the others), which is a massive three-story biergarten that was founded in the late 16th century. (There are others of course, but the Hofbräuhaus is most definitely the king of the area.) I was a bit too intimidated to eat there, so instead we had dinner at Haxnbauer, which features … pig knuckles as a specialty. OM NOM NOM

But seriously, how do I get an awesome attic room like this at home? ;___; Top floor room with dormers FTW!
