Ya know what kills me? The Rum Diary is a wonderful film. Important with many critical things to say, along with some beautiful performances, specifically where Johnny Depp and Giovanni Ribisi are concerned. And then, cutting through the magnificence like a dull, vapid knife is Amber Heard and the subpar romantic subplot, not to mention the poor performance by said actress. If they had written it and HER out (despite it being an important part of the book) it would have been a superior movie.
Ohh I COULDN'T AGREE MORE! The countless times I thought about this and how even more successful this movie would have been without her. I'm honest, back then I thought her performance was okay-ish but looking back at it and after rewatching it i can honestly say this woman is talentless, she has no sensitivity for acting, just gets all these jobs through corruption and her looks (which is also a very low strength of hers because there are A LOT better looking actresses in the industry). Just the fact that they could have had Keira Knightley for this movie makes me so bitter, or as you said leave her role out. Plus the fact that I haven't seen it since everything blew up back than and I think never be able to enjoy this film.
Finally saw The Professor. I hit me on such a personal level, man. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
