Johnny Depp with Andrea Iervolino and Lady Monika Bacardi at the 19th Alice Nella Città 2021 on October 17, 2021 in Rome to promote Puffins and attend his masterclass ✨
TBT: Johnny Depp, announcing he was going to “Tokyo-kyo-kyo-kyo-kyo”, 5 years ago (2016).
Originally recorded on October 25, 2016 in Johnny’s home/studio in Los Angeles (probably recorded by Ross Halfin who was visiting and photographed him to promote his visit to Japan), the video was only released on November 7 with the official announcement that he was going to attend the 2016 Classic Rock Awards, at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena, in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled to happen in only 3 days. Also, the video was released only one day prior his arrival in Japan, on November 8.
TRANSCRIPT: “Hi Japan. This is Johnny Depp, はじめまして*(hajimemashite). We’re gonna be coming there soon with some friends to play at the Classic Rock Awards coming up very soon and there are gonna be some mind-blowing legends. I believe it’s one night only in Tokyo-kyo-kyo-kyo-kyo… it’s pronounced like that, isn’t it? Yeah, so see you there”
* はじめまして(hajimemashite) means “nice to meet you” or “how do you do?/how are you” in Japanese.
“So much of it is chance. I was doing a shoot with Johnny Depp, and he was dating Kate Moss, and I said, bring her along. And that became a great shot.” - Annie Leibovitz, 2021
TBT: Johnny being Johnny, 5 years ago on November 11, 2016 on the backstage of the Classic Rock Awards, at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena, in Tokyo, Japan. 👀 👈👃 👌
And 5 years later after booping noses and poking eyes, on October 17, 2021, during the 19th Alice Nella Città Festival, in Rome, Italy, Johnny got interested in another mascot, who was greeted with a “tongue shake” 😂 😂 Silly boy.

9 years ago, on this day (November 15), Johnny attended and made a surprise appearance during the second night of the Petty Fest West, at the El Rey Theatre, in Los Angeles, California.
Just like on the day before, they were celebrating the second tribute show to “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers”, with the proceeds from the gig for the musician-friendly Sweet Relief fund and towards recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Johnny surprised the audience again, appearing on stage almost in the end of the gig, to play 6 songs (longer than any other performer, including a stunning solo during the 1995 song “It’s Good to Be King”) with the music critic and editor for the Rolling Stone Magazine, Austin Scaggs and the guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr. and drummer Fabrizio Moretti from “The Strokes”.
Later that night, Johnny also signed a guitar and a limited edition poster from Petty Fest West, which were both auctioned with proceeds going to charity.
