We had a visiting photographer come to our classroom at NET and took photos of the students in front of our freedom backdrop. The photographer was Dana Singer and she takes photos of working class communities from New Jersey. Students enjoyed looking at her work and had a lot to say about what kind of narratives they got from looking at her photos, and shared personal stories about their families as well!
Went on a field trip with our NET students to the Fabric Workshop and they got to screen print their own bandana. We also looked at the exhibition they have and did a little art project with sticky notes and displayed it in the gallery.
This week in the Artrepreneurs classroom students practiced drawing techniques. From figure drawing and creating still-lives students used contour lines, color and shadow to embellish their drawings. Lastly, we all shared the different outcomes of each ones drawings.
This week in the Artrepreneurs program students met with teaching artist April Mckeller. April is the owner of Pink Lappel Apparel and is helping our students complete their school uniform project. The students are embellishing hoodies to raise the conversation on the education system and raise awareness for change.
In the Mon-Wednesday class of the Artrepreneurs program, are students have begun working on a new design challenge for Zip Car. The students are creating a vectorized image that will be turned into a car wrap. It’s a competition they’re can only be one car wrap! Stay tuned as we help the students bring their ideas to life!
After the exhibition the students are continuing working with Ikere Jones. After creating their patterns, the students are going to create embellished school hoodies to start a conversation about education and the school system.
We started a new project at NET that is a Joshua Mays inspired self portrait. Students used a phrase that they came up with during Marks workshop about how to keep kids free and repeated it in the background. We then used cut out shapes to make a geometric pattern on top of the words.
