This #MuralMonday, we’re sharing some of our favorite selections from The People’s Art: Black Murals, 1967-1978, an exhibition booklet for an exhibit on community murals at the African American Historical and Cultural Museum in Philadelphia. The exhibit featured murals from by black artists in Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Hartford, and San Francisco.

Welcome to another edition of #MuralMonday! Meet @boogiesml! Boogie grew up in East Germany in a small village. After studying design, he started working as a graphic designer and illustrator. Now his business consists of around 80% graffiti based jobs. • Boogie started graffiti in 1994 with some friends. "We were the first generation of graffiti writers in our region. For about the last 10 years I've been doing it more internationally. I just love to work on simple letters with good colors. Readable and funky. Lots of people say that my artworks look really tasty. This is what I like." • His BMW mural came about through the power of social media. "Social Media became a big part of my business. My Instagram was growing really fast during the last years. So more and more brands are asking for collaborations. But I think the brand has to fit to the artist and the result should be something authentic. One day I got the offer through a Swiss agency to do that project with BMW." • BMW gave Boogie complete creative freedom on what he could do with the project. "So I had different ideas. One was that the car is part of my artwork. I never saw something like this before." • The mural took Boogie one day of planning and one day to paint it. "The idea was simple but the realization was not that easy cause of the perspective. In the end it's super important to have a good photographer with you. The best idea is worth nothing if you're not able to visualize it." • Boogie loves to work with spray paint. On canvas, he also works with brushes or markers. For the BMW project he used Molotow Chalk Spray. "It's washable on most surfaces and worked quite well." In the end, if anything, Boogie loves for his work to make people smile—even if they have no connection with graffiti.
