The makeshift tent was filled with Murphy's soft breathing. Every now and then, he would shift in his sleep but he never woke.
Outside the tent, the rest of the world that we thought had no life was awake. All the animals were alive but made no attempt to come close to the campground that we had set up. It was probably because of the guards that we had posted.
I got up and slowly left the tent without waking Murphy. HE was still asleep when I let the flap of the tent close behind me. There was a guard posted everywere except for one small area. It was also the most protected area of the camp. However, I found a log that I could move out the way and fit through.
I stood outside the campground and grinned. Once I made sure that nobody was watching me, I walked away from the camp. There was a scrap of metal at my hip. It was sharp enough that I could use it as a weapon if worse came to it. There was a snap of a twig behind me and I stopped.
"Really Murphy? You were doing so well." I smiled as I turned around to face him.
"How do you even see them?" He asked kicking some out of the way.
"I step lightly unlike you. You walk too loudly."
"Whatever. What're you even doing here?" Murphy walked towards me.
"I'm going for a walk. I couldn't sleep," I shrugged my shoulders. "What about you? Are you stalking me?" I asked.
"Stalking? I'm keeping an eye on you because everyone will kill me if you die."
"Trust me, I would probably end up dying because of you."
"Just show me where you're going." He sighed. I smiled and held my hand out to him. Murphy looked at my hand for a few seconds before taking it. "So, where are we going?"
"We're going somewhere special." I smiled and Murphy walked with me. "I found this place when I couldn't sleep. I got bored and found a loose log in the walls."
"So you found a way for everyone to die?"
"Oh shut up," I rolled my eyes. "Nobody's going to die. Come on," I pulled his hand.
Murphy smiled and carried on walking behind me until we reached the clearing I was walking to.
"And you're sure this is safe?" Murphy asked as I let go of his hand and sat down.
"Yeah, I've been coming here for a while. Come on," I patted the ground next to me and Murphy sighed. I lay down and looked up at the sky above us.
"You're looking at stars." Murphy noted. "We spent our entire lives in space with the stars, and you come over here to look at them."
"That's right. There's something about looking at the stars from below. This way, you can see all of them."
Murphy sighed and lay next to me. He looked up at the sky and his eyes moved around. Murphy turned his head.
"I thought you wanted to look at the stars." Murphy told me. I laughed and nudged him with my foot. He smiled and nudged me with elbow.
"I love looking at them. They're so pretty." I raised my hand and pointed at different stars. I pretended to draw a line connecting each of them to another as I made up different shapes. Each time, Murphy laughed.
I looked at him and saw that he was looking at me."
"The stars are above us in case you forgot." I laughed. Murphy smiled.
