Princess Diana and the midnight blue silk and tulle diamante embellished strapless evening dress designed by Murray Arbeid.
Diana has worn this gown on four occasions. The first was for a Celebratory Ball given by the former King Constantine of Hellenes at Claridges in London in July 1986. It was then worn by the Princess for the premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre in London on October 9, 1986, and again in Paris at a gala performance of Cinderella at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in 1987. In 1997 Diana chose this gown as part of a collection to be auctioned via Christie’s Auction House in New York. Lord Snowdon took a stunning portrait of her wearing the gown to add to the catalogue for the auction.
