Hazel Dormouse Muscardinus avellanarius

A dormouse native to Europe and Asia Minor. It eats berries and nuts and other fruit with hazelnuts being the main food for fattening up before hibernation. The hazel dormouse spends a large proportion of its life sleeping, either hibernating in winter or in torpor in summer.

This tiny Hazel Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) has been in the Horniman's collections since 1938 and was collected from Bavaria, Germany.

Concept art for an indie RPG. Unused. Black and White, 2012. This was fun, I got to design a bunch of different dormice, using species and fashions from various countries. Being Victorian English, these two are based on the Hazel Dormouse.
