Muscarians originate from the small hatchet-shaped continent of Alabarda. While relatively tiny compared to its sister continents, Alabarda has a wide variety of habitats which has influenced the lifestyle of its native life. Above are the 3 major depictions of Muscarian life, though keep in mind that any muscarian can live any life they choose. Northern Alabardan Muscarians are thick-bodied and hairy to survive against colder temperatures in the north. While 40°F (4°C) feels only chilly to a human, it is bitter for a muscarian that needs warmth and moisture to nurture their fungus. They take refuge in hand-made homes tunneled into giant trees around the area, and aren’t shy about sharing housing structures. One tree can house over 5 muscarian families at once. They are primarily herbivorous, foraging leaves, nectar, and fruit, though they also partake in the occasional insect or even native fauna such as deer and rabbits. These muscarians wear thick, flowy gowns to protect their bodies whilst accommodating for their agile limbs when climbing trees and foraging food. Middle Alabardan Muscarians live in a more temperate climate, with hot summers and cold winters. There are fewer trees to shade them from the sun on hot days, so they dress in light clothing to keep cool and protect their skin. Most muscarians living here are farmers and work the near-endless plains around them, while also breeding and eating their farm animals when the time comes. They are often referred to as “simple folk”, not unlike your average human country bumpkin. They live in cottages and houses that either rest on top of hills or are carved into them, not unlike their cousins to the north. These muscarians also appear to be the most mixed-race of any, as the strong winds near their home carry and claim spores far and wide. Southern Muscarians are lively and energetic. They live near the sea, and have developed dark skin and light, ornamental clothing to survive the scorching summer heat. They are adept swimmers, and prefer hunting over foraging, though they very much love fruit. It is a common misconception to label these muscarians as violent — They’ve simply developed a culture of performance and exertion, often competing against one another in athletics, dance, and even scholarly subjects. When humans from Salvos arrived to attack and enslave muscarians, these muscarians stood their ground and fought fearlessly, then took to the sea when things looked grim. Thankfully, due to their mastery of sailing, they eventually found a new home, on the small tropical island of Chrym. The native Chrymians of the present are remnants of Southern Alabardan culture, while few remain on Alabarda today.
