The masseter is one of several muscles of mastication. It is a thick, quadrilateral muscle, and its function is to elevate the mandible (jaw). The masseter consists of two parts: a superficial and deep muscle. It originates from the zygomatic arch and maxilla and inserts along the angle, ramus and lateral surface of the coronoid process of the mandible. The masseter muscle is innervated (nerve supply) by the mandibular nerve and receives its blood supply from the masseteric artery.
Too see the masseter muscle and all the other muscles of mastication you can download Anomalous Medical for free.
You can also buy the Muscles of Mastication app to run on the Anomalous Medical platform. This app uses the 3D Anatomy in Anomalous Medical to provide an educational guide to the muscles of mastication by explaining their functions and movements.
