Rusted iron creaked open, like the city itself was trying to discourage her actions. Well, she couldn’t blame it, considering the apparent betrayal this was. But no, it should understand, it did not belong to the Dark Lord, Kes Ebb was of the South and all Baskh lived for was her freedom.
And here was a man, rough and dirty as he was, whom she somehow instinctively knew was vital for that. His interrogation had told her enough. She had brought no torch, the dark was no true enemy to her, but the clearer light in the cell showed him tense at his intruder. She spoke in the North’s common tongue, accented and slow as it might be, whispered to keep the guards asleep.
“You will escape with me. You will ask no foolish questions. You will trust me because you have no choice. Yes?” Forthright, clear, commanding. They did not have time for pleasantries.
