A Day in the Life of a (Chilly) Museum Manager
Hello Nerds, thought you might like to know what I do all day.
Well the day always starts with walking Ianto. today we ran into his friend Pipa and they played very well. After that its breakfast before going into work. it took a bit of extra effort on my part to get Ianto ready for work today.
then we get into work and Ianto Must Play for a few minutes. I keep a variety of toys at the museum for that purpose. today we where playing with a little pumpkin and a tennis ball. he is now chewing a bone.
Then I set about my work which is currently focused on tgis bench
where I am adding object numbers to all objects that need them, including updating from bipartite to tripartite numbers. to do this, because of the materials on this shelf, I place a liquid label on them all then go back and number them later.
here you can see a pot without numbers and some tools with bipartite numbers.
then I fill in mg notebook and write on the oject itself.
Ianto supervises.
After doing this for 2 hours I take a break to check email etc then do this again for another hour or so before heqding home.
the notes are digitized and that digital file is the inventory!
Music and Mime at Poole Museum
Music and Mime at Poole Museum
Looking for something new to try with your little one? Why not come along to Poole Museum’s baby and toddler group based around singing nursery rhymes and learning simple baby sign language.
The Museum, Music and Mime group meet every Friday morning between 10.30-11.30am at the museum. The relaxed and informal drop-in sessions are themed, with the children and their parents/carers singing songs related to those themes.
Each week the session begins with Museum staff showing the babies and toddlers a different museum artefact related to the theme and learning signs to describe the object including the name, size, or colour of the object. Often babies are able to learn and use signs before they are able to speak and so this helps them to communicate from an earlier age.
Following the success of these weekly meetings Poole Museum have now introduced a loyalty card scheme to benefit parents and carers. For every six sessions that a parent/carer and child attends, the parent/carer will be treated to a free hot drink at the Museum’s stunning terrace café, Café Explore.
Michael Spender, Museum Manager said: “I’m delighted we offer these stimulating and enjoyable sessions for babies and toddlers. E veryone is welcome at Poole Museum and through these weekly events even the very youngest visitors are catered for.”
The Museum, Music and Mime sessions are open to any children and their parents or carers between the ages of 0-3 years old at a cost of £2 per child, with siblings under four months going free. Booking is not essential, but spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please call 01202 262600 for more information.
