Not all references to the Red Riding Hood are quite so literal. This 2014 Dolce and Gabbana hooded dress from Fall 2014 definitely alludes to the fairytale without copying. The red is present but it is embellished with a woodland inspired print. A little more Red Riding Hood My previous post showed a red cloak from the 1700s and yet it does not look too different from these 20th/21st century creations. While people may no longer wear vibrant red cloaks on a daily basis, the striking garment persists on the runway. The cloak on the left is a Giorgio di Sant'Angelo creation from the 1970s. Sant'Angelo opted for a folkloric inspiration, adding embroidery around the hood and opening of the cloak. The cloak is dated late 18th century and the nightdress is dated 1885, yet they don't look out of place as something we might see in a play, at Halloween or even at our own grandma's house! It's been a minute but I'm so excited about #Fairytalefashion at The Museum at FIT. Obviously inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, this cloak was designed by Storytailors in 2015. It is the first garment you see when you walk in to the exhibition and the red just pops! Storytailors are the design duo João Branco and Luis Sanchez.
