A prática de Hanny origina-se da rica herança do bordado em ouro. Ela procura encontrar sua própria abordagem contemporânea para esta forma de arte centenária. Ela é fascinada pelas qualidades inerentes dos fios de metal com os quais trabalha; a interação de luz e metal. Ela retira a técnica e permite que as qualidades de diferentes metais falem por si mesmas. Ela usa muito o ponto de sofá em seu trabalho. Os pontos de sofá criam suas próprias linhas, marcas e humores, oferecendo possibilidades infinitas de autoexpressão. Uma peça geralmente começa com uma lógica ou um conjunto de regras; suas próprias imperfeições durante o ato de fazer acrescentam imprevisibilidade e espontaneidade. A obra tende a assumir uma forma abstrata, mas ela também espera captar um pouco o sentimento meditativo dos padrões e ritmos do mundo natural. Ela mora em Shropshire, Reino Unido.

Hanny’s practice stems from the rich heritage of goldwork embroidery. She seeks to find her own contemporary approach to this centuries-old art form. She is fascinated by the inherent qualities of the metal threads she works with; the interaction of light and metal. She strips back technique and allows the qualities of different metals to speak for themselves. She uses couching stitch a lot in her work. Couching stitches create their own lines, marks and moods, offering endless possibilities for self-expression. A piece often starts with a logic or a set of rules; her own imperfections during the act of making add unpredictability and spontaneity. The work tends to take an abstract form, but she also hopes to capture some the meditative feeling of the patterns and rhythms of the natural world. She is based in Shropshire, Uk.

“Suas paisagens oceânicas, feitas em colaboração com os alunos que ele ensina a fazer crochê, transformam galerias em recifes artificiais.​ Corais vibrantes, cefalópodes místicos e peixes picadores trançados de fios coloridos pendem do teto, brotam do chão e cobrem as paredes.​ Mas a cena lúdica carrega uma mensagem séria - explodindo no recife entrelaçado estão corais brancos puros, um sinal arrepiante da decadência oceânica.​ Ao trazer o branqueamento de corais para a superfície, Mulyana permite que qualquer pessoa experimente visceralmente as evoluções bentônicas da maneira que os mergulhadores fazem diariamente. O artista espera que valorizemos a abundância que o oceano nos dá, aprendamos a protegê-lo e levemos apenas o que precisamos.”

“His oceanscapes, made in collaboration with students he teaches to crochet, transform galleries into purpose-sunk artificial reefs. Vibrant corals, mystic cephalopods and chipper fish twisted from colorful yarn dangle from the ceiling, sprout from the floor and crest the walls. But the playful scene carries a serious message—bursting through the knit reef are pure white corals, a chilling signal of oceanic decay. In bringing coral bleaching topside, Mulyana allows anybody to viscerally experience the benthic evolutions the way divers do daily. The artist hopes that we will appreciate the abundance that the ocean gives us, learning to protect it, and only taking what we need.”

Mas trabalhar com esta ideia é também navegar entre arte e artesanato, entre arte e tradição. É, portanto, também falar de transmissão, de temporalidade, de um vínculo com o nosso meio. A execução dessas diferentes tarefas requer um tempo de execução longo e lento. O tempo está suspenso, o gesto é repetitivo, minha mente foge e meus pensamentos ficam presos nisso. A aprendizagem do gesto que é transmitida torna-se automática com o domínio e a execução principal da técnica à medida que a mente escapa para uma espécie de transe onde todas as marcas do tempo são apagadas.” ___ “I express myself with so-called " Ouvrages de dames" techniques. The common thread of my work is this thread which, through a stitch, a weft, a yarn over, a seam, speaks of intimacy.
