so I've been reading entirely too many of @bogleech's Pokemon reviews and lamenting the relative lack of creepy fungi Pokemon in the franchise as a whole, and then I saw a muntjac deer with its open face glands for the first time and well, here we are

I call it Mushjack. The white eye spots on the face aren't actually eyes; the real eyes are in the glands between the eye spots.

It's grass/poison and of course it learns spore.

HI JACK you KNOWWW THAT HALLUCINATION SKULK THANG !!!!Ok but i think that like. itd be sort of similar to how a lot of diseases (esp ones that make it to your brain) affect you in a way to get you to spread the skulk (eg rabies), except it NEEDS you dead to fully turn you into skulk so it focuses less on spreading and more on convincing the host (parrot) to stay with the skulk, let it consume you even faster. It doesn't want to leave the deep dark anyway, so it's going to keep you there <3 Parrot hallucinates wifies bc TO ME he has 1000000 tons of repressed guilt about not being able to save wifies, so the skulk is very kind and lets them think they have a second chance to possibly save him, except its really just trying to get parrot closer to the skulk lump to infect him faster :)) i think for most people a brain-skulk infection would make them lose hope, but parrot didn't have any before infection so it gives him hope <3
