Reppin' My House! Happy Halloween!!
Where's that damn tunnel?
I had to sit through an afternoon of MATH INSERRVICE today. All elementary teachers of all contents had to go to MATH INSERVICE. Something about common core blah, blah, blah. Here is a list of annoying things in the Music Education world I would rather do than sit through those kind of meetings: 1. I would rather give tambourines to KINDERGARTNERS to play with...than sit through those types of meetings. 2. I would rather plan Music Programs for 200 kids...than sit through a math inservice 3. I would rather listen to 40 recorders playing Hot Cross Buns on the first day of recorder...than sit through a math inservice. About 5 minutes in, I remembered a scene from The West Wing wherein President Bartlett was looking for a way to tunnel out of Church because of the less than stellar homily he and Abby were sitting through. I'm with your Mr. President, where's that damn tunnel!
Jack Be Nimble
Scene: Kindergarten Music Class, Catholic School Gym.
Me to J: Hey J! Go get the Kleenex box, we're going to do Jack Be Nimble!
J: YAY!! OK!
J places the Kleenex box on the jump circle on the gym floor, tall side up. Box is used as a "candle" so the Kindergarten can jump over it while the song is playing.
Song plays, Kindergarteners enjoy!
Me: Good job everyone! Hey J: go get the candle and put it away!!
J: But it's hot!! I can't touch it!!
Me: What!? It's hot?! WAIT I GET IT!! Hot!!
Me belly laughing while the PE teacher sits with his head down and shoulders shaking.
I love being a Music Teacher!!
The Dancing Music Teacher
I staged 2 of my 3 Spring Programs last week. There are several songs that are up tempo and just fun, including "Can't Stop the Feeling". So, halfway through the second Program Rehearsal I ask myself: "Do I look like an idiot singing and dancing on stage with my students? Should I Professional-it-Up a bit?! I mean Whoopi Goldberg made it look cool in Sister Act 2, but do I look stupid?!?! And then I realized that I don't care....that in the middle of the Program, it is just me and my students up on that stage and nothing else matters. Ready or not, Next Week Cometh!
King Rob
1st Grader today in music class: I once tried to be the king of my house.
Me: How did that go over with your older sisters?!?
1st Grader: yeeeahh....not well.
Me knowing his older sisters: Not surprised there, Rob...not at all.
1st Grader: I still have my crown...I wear it when I'm alone in my room sometimes.
Me: whatever works!
Heard in 1st Grade
Names have been changed to protect the hilarious.
Student walking into class: Miss. B?
Me: Yeah?
Student: Rob's being a Jerk to me.
Me not really paying attention to the tattletale: Huh...what....who's what!??
Student: Did you hear me? Rob's being a Jerk to me.
Me saying : Ok, I'll talk to him....
Me thinking: Takes one to know one, Bucko.
