How-To Quick Changes
although very stressful I love quick changes! and i pretty much mastered how to do them efficiently. Here’s a guide on how to master your quick changes too.
1. Assess your time. Is this a super super quick change or you have a decent amount of time. Try to get an estimate but then subtract some time. For example if you think you have 2 minutes really only count on having 1 or 1 ½.
2. Assemble a team. Whether it’s someone in the cast who isn’t doing anything at the moment or someone on hair or makeup, have someone be door person (if needed) to hold any doors you may need to run in our out of. They’re only job is to hold the door open the whole time bc running right through will cut a lot of time off. Next, an undresser someone to help with zippers, buttons, weird cuts. Lastly a dresser, someone who will help put the costume on.
3. Layer. when possible layering clothing is one of the best things so you only have to remove a couple layers instead of taking off and putting on a whole new costume.
4. Chairs. If for some reason you can’t have anyone helping you, chairs are your new best friend! Having your costumes unzipped and ready to just be skipped on is really easy when they’re lying out neatly on a chair.
5. Biker shorts/tank top. Everyone’s level of comfort is different in front of others but when you know you are going to be changing backstage or just in front of a ton of people it’s a good idea to definitely wear shorts underneath and a tank top bc it can also just make the changes easier as if you miss a button or a zipper broke you won’t be flashing the world on stage
