The web developer Paul Lewis, aka Aerotwist, decided to up the ante and made a site that maps song frequencies in a dial shape and on top of that he explains how create your own app on his site. 

Here you can upload your own song to see how it looks like.

This project is really inspiring, I would actually like to do something really similar: an analogue device that pictures a song on real time. I thin I would like to relate the color to a song aspect as I think it has a lot to do with the representation of feelings. On the other hand I would like to make it linear instead of dial as I think a song has a linear aspect; from beginning to end.

First - a disclosure - yes, I watch Dr. Who.  I watch it because I rock and the show rocks and there is some scripture somewhere that says "Birds of a feather flock together."

Second - this song is kind of amazing! You would think that Katherine Jenkins, the vocal talent, would be some viking-hat-wearing-large-breasted-imposing-Opera-stereotype-filling-megalith of a woman.  Surprise! She is this gorgeous, young blond thing.

Finally -  I get a small kick out of seeing the DNA of music.  Abigail's Song seems to share some DNA with a few of Bear McCreary's works in Battlestar Galactica (mainly "The Shape of things to Come" or "Passacaglia" both from Season 1.) It's like Brian Tyler shared DNA in "Inama Nushif" off of the Children of Dune soundtrack with Hans Zimmers' "Now We Are Free" from the Gladiator Soundtrack.  I am not saying they are the same song or that one pirated from the other - all I am saying is there are common building blocks for these songs.  Kind of fun really. It's like seeing how Buddy Holly influenced Elvis influenced Beatles influenced Oasis.
