I kinda feel that I have become a bit more selective with my music taste and opening my horizon to different genres such as edm has done that to me. I have specific artist that I like in the edm world as well as the indie/alternative one. Of course in the edm world, u dont need much of a background in liking it to get quickly sucked in. It's quite a remarkable thing, there's a whole different community and vibe.
Indie on the other hand, I feel is like dark chocolate, the more you listen/try it the better it tastes/sounds. I've gotten a bit picky through out the years with the stuff I listen to.
And here is where it starts to get a bit, if you say, douchy. There are many great upcoming bands, some of them are more like one album wonders and you hear the same stuff over and over on the radio. People that aren't usually inclined to listen to other types of music in that genre will listen to the radio and be like, oooh, I really like that band now, bc of the popular songs they have heard.
There are some other people that really start liking a band when they hear the new singles and they become pretty popular, so now they are big fans of ____ bands. I've seen that happen with a few people around me lately.
There's some popular stuff out there that I just can't listen to, just bc it's not my cup of tea. Just bc it's #1 on the charts or whatever doesn't make it good, well to me in particular. So I am not really saying that I've become a music snob bc I don't think that's it but to ppl who know how much I am into music it may appear that way when they mention certain popular bands they like and I am like, yeaaaa, they've had better albums or, yeaa I don't really like them.
I'll stick to what I like and others can still to what they want which in some cases just seems like they bandwagon.
