being a good music major

What makes a good student? What makes a good music student? What makes a good musician? How does one become a good musician? 

Practicing?

Score studying?

Keeping a practice journal?

Starting sooner than everyone else?

Going to a conservatory?

They all have their benefits, and someone that does all the above might be a great musician, but there’s so much more to being a musician or a music student than locking yourself up in a practice room for six hours a day and going to a lesson once or twice a week. It’s more than orchestra rehearsal. It’s more than you and your instrument. In my own experience with being a music student, professors expected me to expand my knowledge, do research, and work on my own (as they should!). But, not all of us music students know what we need to practice, learn, or become aware of. Not all of us were lucky enough to be ready to apply for jobs or graduate school after obtaining a BM or BA. 

It’s more important than you’d think it is to learn the main themes of standard choral, orchestra, and jazz works. It’s more important than you’d think it is to learn how to read open score and be proficient in playing the piano. It’s also more important than you think to get a head start on your audition excerpts. The bottom line is, **BEING PREPARED IS IMPORTANT!** So, I’m creating this blog so the musicsphere can (hopefully)  give a helping hand to those of us that may need some help with anything and everything that has to do with becoming a better music student.. or musician overall.

Listenlike.me ilk ayı geride bırakırken

Listenlike.me Ekim ayının sonu, Kasım ayının başlarında sunucu sorunlarından arınıp kesintisiz yayına başladı.

Aradan geçen 1.5 ay boyunca, herhangi bir tanıtım ve reklam yapmadığımız halde, bir nevi kulaktan kulağa diyebileceğimiz şekilde yayılarak yoğun bir ilgi gördü. Bu ilgi üzerine Listenlike.me'nin yeni halini hazırlamaya karar verdik. Tabii daha kapsamlı ve detaylı olacaktı. Profil sayfaları, Playlist kaydetme, Normal kayıt, Musicsphere ismini verdiğimiz, Benzer müzikleri dinleyen kişileri karşılaştırma, Oda yönetimi gibi birçok detay hazırlandı, İngilizce ve Türkçe olarak sistem tamamen bitirildi.

İlk sürümden aldığımız bazı geribildirimler sayesinde varolan hatalarıda giderdik. Listenlike'in sade arayüzü yeni halinde değişmedi.

İlk ayı geride bırakırken şuan oluşan istatisiklere göz atarsak eğer;

22.12.2012 itibariyle

4.500 üstü yeni oda oluşturuldu.

Yaklaşık 3.100 yeni kişi facebook, twitter veya Google hesaplarını kullanarak sisteme giriş yaptı.

Oluşturulan odalara toplamda 11.000 üstü yeni şarkı eklendi,

Google Analytics verilerine göre, son 1 ayda 223 kişi twitter profilinde,

412 kişide facebook profilinde kendi oda adresini paylaştı. Bu paylaşımlardan 2100 yeni ziyaret gerçekleşti.

Bununla beraber diğer sosyal ağlarda, Pocket, Netvibes, Friendfeed G+ 'da totalde 200'e yakın paylaşım yapıldı.

Alexa değerimiz geçtiğimiz hafta 3.100.000 gibi bir rakamken, bugün 1,503,025 ulaşmış durumda. Evelki ay 20.000.000 civarındaydı.

Google Analytics'in Listenlike.me için hazırladığı son 1 aylık ziyaretçi artış grafiği;

Dikey bir yükseliş gösterdiğini söyleyebiliriz.

Demografik bilgilere bakacak olursak;

Listenlike.me Henüz Afrika kıtasından hiç ziyaretçi alamadı(Suudi arabistan ve Umman hariç). Henüz 1.5 aylık bir girişim olmamız nedeniyle, şimdilik Türkiye'den ziyaretçiler ağırlıkta.

Musicsphere

So many people are so tunnel-visioned when it comes to music that they miss out on the goodness that is music as a whole. I've slowly been appreciating music itself moreso lately rather than remaining in the comfort one genre, you should try it. In the past week, I've been listening to everything from Drum N Bass to Folk, from Rock to Contemporary, from Soul to Grime/Dubsteb, from J Dilla to the Black Keys...I've been immersing myself into music and so far have found a lot that I've liked.

Here's where you come in...tell me who I should give a listen to or check out. They can be rap, rock, bluegrass, Christian, tribal, I don't care (no screamo please tho, my ears just can't grasp that)...I geninuely want to check it out (that doesn't mean I like everything I've listened to but can't say you don't like it 'til you've tried it). So leave me a comment on FB, @ reply me on Twitter (don't text me cuz my phone ain't working) and let me know what I should be checking out.
