We all know the tired cliché of "Muslims who drink, have premarital sex, and commit every sin in the book except eating pork," but I like to imagine there's at least one Muslim out there who is the exact opposite. Someone so pious and incorruptible that they're held up as an example for the entire ummah, but in private their faith trembles before a really good prosciutto

i’ve made a community for queer muslims!

There are so many struggles queer muslims face from a mix of homophobia and islamophobia, to guilt about being born the way they are. And the best way to deal with struggles is through community and asking for help.

It’s important for Queer Muslims to band together in this isolating world, learning how to wholly accept themselves and Islam. So even if you don’t join the community (though I encourage you to), pop in every now and then!

Also forgot daylight savings was a thing and almost missed all my prayers today jeeze

the "nak balik kampung" list

alt: the "i wanna go home" list. it's the last few days of ramadan and usually i'd be packing to go home now.

me and my sibling conking out for the majority of the trip

getting stuck in traffic with half the country who are also tired but excited to balik kampung

maktok's smile when she sees us pull into the driveway

that first "assalamualaikuuuuum!!!"

kissing the hand of everyone older than me as they ask me how the trip was

all my lil cousins running up to kiss my hand, a bit shy after not seeing me for so long

anyam ketupat (i.e. failing to anyam ketupat and having to be taught for the 1842937th time) and arranging the kuih

touching the wet paint on the wall just because

eating on the floor, watching the news and making bets on what colour shirt the raya announcer will be wearing this year

ironing all the baju kurung and tudung and baju melayu

watching the boys hang up the lights and the oil lamps

teaching my youngest cousin how to properly hold a sparkler

sleeping really late with my cousin as she tells me all the tea

waking up to azan and smiling because its hari raya!!

trying not to fall asleep during khutbah

reciting takbir with the jemaah

old ladies in my saf talking about how old i am now and remembering how i would run between their legs as a kid

successfully locating my slippers outside the masjid

racing my cousins back home

helping my male cousins with their buttons

the smell of maktok's powder as she kisses my cheek

this playing on repeat, my auntie sneakily replacing it with this

young kids ringing the door bell for duit raya and sweets

going to all the aunties' houses and them coming to ours

"besaq dah na, boleh kawin dah ni" "tau dak, anak mak tam tu ha-- habih belajaq dah"

playing with all the kids

taking lots of cheesy pictures

still getting duit raya cause i'm always gonna be the little girl that loved listening to stories

wan's grumbling when someone sits in his chair

maktok correcting my tajwid

once again sleeping late, but this time with all the cousins and the one uncle that has awesome taste in movies

eating ketupat and rendang for next three days
