I always felt that McCartney's - which I like - was more of just a general "it's Christmas time, here's me and Linda with my synth having a good old time" while Lennon's was just straight bullshit from a rich ding-dong. And this is coming from someone who prefers Lennon over McCartney.

I actually quite like McCartney's synthy experiments from that era, so I'm fond of his despite the inanity. Lennon's is unforgivable though; one thing worse than a tired Xmas staple is a preachy one
McCartney apologists! I kid, and honestly I get it. On paper, Lennon’s is the clearly the worst. It’s ill informed psudeo-activist bunk and actually obnoxious. He’s so preachy despite saying very little. McCartney’s I hate pretty much equally, but it’s largely rooted in personal tastes. Also the fact that it’s a song that I won’t get out of my head until March.
