the blips and screeches and 8? bit drums are very important to me. the remake adds a lot of interesting nuance and i’m glad it exists, but i don’t like some of its sample choices. the echo is nice for conveying the space of the ruins, but it may be to blame for the tinny sound (which i think is mostly a problem with the percussion). and i’m attached to the crispness of the individual instruments in the sscc version, but that preference is probably a matter of what you heard first. i feel like the idiosyncracies of the remake don’t fit the boss themes, which end up so overwrought they might as well have used zunpets.

some tracks have been improved in lovely ways but my faves are probably m. u. and interstice of the dimension, so that influences my decision by the way i just found out there’s an official vocal version of song of curry

and i noticed ancient machine + interstice would both work really well as speed metal
