Pairing: Frisk & Sans
Prompt: Phantom singing (potential soulmate?)
[“The other night, dear, as I laid sleeping, I dreamt I held you in my arms.”]
If there was one thing that ate at Sans’ waking hours, it was the voice that filled the silences at night and lingered in the background of conversations like an incessant soundtrack to his life. The song was always the same, as was the singer, and he swore he could sing the accursed song without so much as a thought. Stars knew that he had hummed the melody in the absent moments between shifts, when he was alone with just himself, his thoughts, and that song.
[“When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken. So I hung my head and I cried.”]
He wished he knew why he kept hearing this damned song and woman’s voice he could have sworn he had never heard before. By the Angel’s wings, it would have been nice to even know why her singing tugged at his SOUL in a way that nearly had him in tears every time her voice petered off, taking with it the soothing lullaby she gave life. But that was too much to ask, he supposed.
[“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when the skies are gray.”]
Sans sighed and let his skull fall against the wooden counter of his sentry station with a soft thunk. It was pretty, he had to admit, and it was soothing to hear after nightmares sank their claws into his dreams. But, stars, it was slowly driving him insane. Not even the steady flowing waters of Waterfall or the glowing, whispering echo flowers could drown it out when she began her siren song.
[“You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don’t take my sunshine away.”]
There was a soft rapping of fleshy knuckles against wood and the skeleton raised his head to stare at the small, brown haired child staring back at him, their head tilted to the side in silent curiosity.
“Are you okay, Sans?” signed the little human as they furrowed their brows, dark brown irises peeking through narrowed lids.
“yeah, i’m fine,” he brushed off with a flash of his ever present— yet not always real — grin. “just a li’l tired, s’all.” A little tired of hearing that sweet song that sank its claws into his SOUL.
[“I'll always love you and make you happy, and nothing else could come between. But if you leave me to love another, you'll have shattered all of my dreams.”]
“Are you sure?” Frisk signed as they eyed him. Huffing internally, he forced the grin wider and eyed them back. He wasn’t so frustrated that it was obvious to the kid, was he? The Monster didn’t think so, at least.
“yeah, ‘m sure, kid.” Sans pushed himself up right with a roll of his shoulders before he tried to ease the tension from his bones. “i’m sure.”
[“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don’t take my sunshine away.”]
{Hi there! Ask box 0/100///This is an ask blog centering around Frisk at the start of a neutral run. You're asks will shape Frisk actions when faced with certain monsters// They/them for Frisk, and Frisk is mute, with a unique verison of sign language. words will either be translated or narrated by a certain ghost friend... }
After I fell down the mountain, I realized there was a much more important issue than my two broken limbs. I couldn't speak. I was inexplicably mute. I remember talking before. I did it all the time on the surface. But now I couldn't. I somehow explained this to Toriel when I met her. Fortunately, she was certified at teaching MSL (Monster Sign Language.) I ended up staying in The Ruins for a couple months so I could master it. My arm and leg never healed in that time though, but they also never worsened. Toriel's magic must have stabilized them, I guess. Wasn't able to get them fixied until I was back on the surface. Human doctors are good like that.
I wonder what name signs a deaf Frisk would give their friends? If anyone would like to help that would be great because I'm drawing a comic of them with Sans, Toriel, and maybe Papyrus (I'm hearing and don't know a ton of ASL yet but I'm learning)
