Abrielle and Athalie's Familiars

They originally were very close and they named each others familiars.

Abrielle's familiar is named Roi (French for king/monarch because her familiar was a king scissor-tailed flycatcher lmfao) but also funny because Athalie's familiar was named Basil which is the name of a plant but also means king/royal (in Greek - root word "basileus")

So even though Abrielle did technically name her sister's bird after a plant and Athalie was just pulling out one of the words of the type of bird Abrielle had.... they both technically mean the same things which sort of leans into the twin aspect in spite of themselves + their familiars being so different

How would you have described Abrielle (the former Severin matriarch) and Chloe (Camille’s twin) while they were alive?

you will learn a bit about them through small facts in later chapters but I can tell you some things! 

Abrielle was a very kind/caring person but probably the first people would describe her with was open minded. Her and Athalie’s mother was a lot more like Athalie (strict/cold/ very ‘follow traditions’ sort of person)  while she had her eyes much more on the future. 

Chloe was much more excitable/extroverted than Camille. even though they were twins it was always easy to tell them apart just because of how quiet/shy Camille was. Often if Camille needed anything she would just ask Chloe to ask for it. She was very outdoorsy and much more into gardening.

I just fast passed the latest episode and I have a question. When purple-haired matriarch(I forgot her name) was talking with Nyra about possibly not having a familiar, she said that the “fire in her veins” would go dormant and she would basically become normal. Hopefully, this isn’t a spoiler. Does not having a familiar after a certain cause a witch’s magic to fade away?

(her name is Inira! <3 ) but yes! they are born with their powers as part of their family line and the magical aspects have dominate traits- but the abridged version is that Familiars are basically contracts you form with magic (which is sourced from Trea, the world dendro is from) to let it continue to flow through you in a controlled way.

It's why dual blooded kids (like camille) are frowned upon because when you have a familiar it is only making that contract with one type of magic, but leaving you open for the rest to come through in a completely unregulated way.

And also why you need to be Muted before you have a familiar because it's easier and less dangerous to do that when the witch doesn't have a soul binding agreement with the universe lmfao.

Hey miranda. What type of Familiar does Alette have? I was just curious. we see her but her familiar is missing. I'm guessing it's also sick and on its last feather, probably has some bald spots from Alette using all those feathers cause she's terrible.

Hey miranda I was wondering how Severins would use their blood magic in a fight. I remember you saying how Athalie had avaline's and Camille's blood to track them. Do they keep vials and jars at home to save the trouble of cutting themselves?

Also my sister joked that because Silvia has been in the manor for years without much supervision, she has some tricks up her sleeve. Like she pulls out a long ass dagger on Athalie and goes " While you were being hetero I studied the blade".

that is hilarious and honestly yeah Silvia probably has a bunch of weird hobbies that she tried out just to keep herself entertained. From knitting to blade wielding LMAO maybe Nyra traded her a sword in one of her visits. 

But yeah they often keep some blood in vials for small things like that (with a spell to keep it from clotting) but that benefits Athalie more than it benefits cam/avaline since Athalie can use their blood to track/control them as we’ve seen. 

but typically they don’t do that for most things because  1. Fresh blood for big spells would obviously be more impactful that blood that had been stored for a long period of time 2. they have spells to replenish lost blood (silvia after rescuing cam from the swamp in ep 6/7ish) 3. they have spells to stop bleeding (see camille saying “i used a spell to stop the bleeding” after strix dug into her shoulder)

nah, they just have the kind of loveless marriage you see in plenty of movies lmfao when he’s home (which is rare) they still barely see each other and might have like... One dinner together. 

As you can see by how well she kept her secret for over 13 years... Athalie is a very good liar lmfao I’m sure the first couple year or so of marriage was perfectly delightful while she was acting nice and sweet until she confirmed that she was pregnant and then didn’t really need to have him around. And a prenup agreement that leans pretty heavy in her favor it’s just easier for them to stay legally married while more or less living their own lives. 

there is also an infidelity clause - but she basically told him that he can sleep with whoever he wants to so long as he never sees who he’s sleeping with otherwise she’ll ruin him lol
