Trip hop remains a tough style to define, since the mode has so many meanings. For instance, DJ Shadow belongs to the category, even though you would be hard pressed to find the similarities with, say, Massive Attack. However, once you look beyond the surface, you notice both of them share an incredible eclecticism, which results in their tunes. I mean, DJ Shadow basically does plunderphonics, but you cannot hear The Avalanches in his voyages. No, he's much darker than them, which might be one of the reasons he's tagged with a trip hop label. Nonetheless, he does seem to fit the scene's modus operandi with the amount of the gloominess that lurks in his works. You see, the type always had a tinge of melancholy within their compositions.
