marie  was  FUMING.  even  though  she  wanted  to  simply  spend  the  day  unpacking, steadily  moving  in,  mourning  her  audacious  lifestyle,  she  never  expected  to  get  news  of  lewis’  presence  in  eden.  if  moving  to  the  south  indefinitely  wasn’t  torture  enough  for  her.  walking  up  to  her  porch,  she  took  a  deep  breath  —  somewhat  reluctant  of  what  she  was  about  to  do  —  and  through  gritted  teeth,  muttered  a     “   lewis.   “    to  summon  the  other.  she  couldn’t  help  how  anxious  she  was  feeling  about  the  whole  thing.  she  had  never  in  a  million  years  suspected  he  was  capable  of  leaving  her  so  devastatingly,  and  honestly  a  part  of  her  felt  embarrassed.  it  had  only  been  about  two  years  but  the  wound  for  her  was  still  gaping.  once  she  could  see  him  approaching  her,  in  the  flesh,  the  only  thought  going  through  her  head  was  the  most  painful  way  she  could  rip  his  heart  out.  as  soon  as  the  other  stopped  in  front  of  her,  she  put  all  the  energy  and  pain  she  felt  into  a  single,  deafening  slap.  and  truthfully,  the woman  felt  much  better  after  she  cocked  her  head  up,  breathing  a  bit  heavily,  hurt.   “   you  entitled.  little.  pussy.   “

TITLE: A MOSQUITO’S GREATEST SCHEME.  SETTING: BLOOD DRIVE. STARRING: LETHA NEWMAN & LEWIS ANDERSON.

LETHA: connections made in eden were few and far between. most were circumstantial —— like beau rochester and abigail shabat. wrong place at the wrong time. in regards to the former at least. but her relation to lewis anderson was self - made. and stupidly so. letha had never been good at awkward encounters : or the proper etiquette for certain relationships. she should say hi, though … shouldn’t she? you said hi to anybody that you knew well enough. and she knew him well enough. “ hey … „ with a sharp inhale, bare arms folded, letha continues. “ so a blood drive, huh. „ obviously. “ that’s cool. who’s it for? „

LEWIS: they were friends first and fucking second - or was it the other way around ? what was sure is that he certainly didn't expect to show up at the blood drive he was 'helping' with. he expected people to ask him what it was for, he has a whole story ready. if the people of eden knew, they would be happy that he wasn't out there just getting blood. in a way, those who were giving blood were willing and it made it easier on his conscience. it just isn't the same as having it fresh, but beggars can be choosers. he can tell how uncomfortable she is by the way she acts. " oh you know, it's to help people in a town nearby who don't get nearly enough donations " he lies.

LETHA: as if her sun-kissed, sparsely freckled, skin was no more than a suit borrowed, letha feels the need to shed the extra layer. like a wool sweater, itching and scratching. a discomfort which presents in unaccomplished stillness. it wasn’t OVERWHELMING —— by any means —— but it was forever present, more of a dull ache than a stabbing one. it’d gotten worse over the years, then easier. only uncertainty made letha incredibly aware of this veneer. which was to say… when speaking to boys who’d seen her in the nude.   “   what, are they all … anaemic, or something?   „   stupid question, quickly moved on from as she approaches.   “   well, i don’t really know how this works, but —— i’m a negative.   „   dropping down into the single, presumably assigned seat, she casts him a smile. part scruple, part civility.   “   if that is of any importance.   „

business blooms—pun intended—for buncha flowers. but it isn’t because of positive yelp reviews or out of this world customer service. fast cash is easily earned when spring blossoms throughout eden, and even more effortlessly when your shop act the only florist in town. yet money brings forth little enthusiasm. socialising was agonising, as was the working portion. so when bright-eyed teens come in for corsages and their grandparents for funeral arrangements, odette performs the bare minimum. but you multiply closing time with hovering customers, and she’s at the top of her game.  “  roses are overrated.  „  rounding the counter, the man is approached. he must’ve been eyeing the cheap, pre-made bouquets for twenty minutes now. or was it two? time moves slower this time a day.  “  i’d go with peonies or tulips. sweet peas if you’ve got the pocket change.  „  giving him a quick once-over, odette makes an attempt to determine the purpose of his purchase. old enough for a serious partner, young enough for grandparents to still be kicking.  “  but … that all depends on what they’re for. right? so, did you piss off your girlfriend? or are you visiting your sweet ‘n super racist abuela?  „         /        @mvdwcrld​
