The @the_mwf challenge happening now! Challenge #6 is be a rock star! #MWFChallenge #LAMusic #PortCredit (at L.A. Music)
So it looks like there won't be any Friday challenge this week, sorry about that...and I was planning on taking the next two weeks (my spring break) off from the sketch challenge anyway, since, a bit counterintuitively, having these sketch challenges really helps me focus and balance my workload during the school quarter, and I feel like it would just stress me out unnecessarily to add that as an obligation during my vacation, when I will already feel self-pressured to read every single book I've bought and not read over the past several years. (Among other things.)
Though, my question to you guys is, when school resumes and I start up with the sketch challenge again, should I continue with the same format/prompts as I've been doing, or start up a new challenge, such as trying to complete one comic page or other complex finished image per week? What do you guys think?
Friday Challenge #5 of my self-imposed Monday-Wednesday-Friday sketch challenge series. Since I failed miserably in my screentone placement on a recent school assignment, I thought this could be a good opportunity to try practicing that again...not sure how well it worked. Also, apparently it's not just trees that I have trouble inking, it's approximately everything natural, like rocks. When I get home for spring break I should just go on a massive quest to sketch everything in my backyard in the hopes of improving...
Anyway, this was basically just a big excuse to draw Rolf. Because I don't tend to have a lot of valid excuses for drawing Rolf in lederhosen climbing up the side of a mountain with Victor the goat on his back.
(Also, as I discovered while searching through tags on this site, apparently there's a fashion designer duo named Viktor & Rolf...even though they apparently existed before Ed Edd n Eddy did, I don't think I'd ever be able to take them seriously because of that association. The idea of "the son of a shepherd" running a fashion house with his favorite goat is far too hilarious.)
EDIT: ...How in the world did this get posted separately on its own?
Anyway, it's accumulated enough notes that I'd feel bad taking it down, so here's the link to the full post: Wednesday challenge #2 of my...
The MWF Challenge!
First off, though I may be new to Tumblr, some of you may know me as Illustrious-Crackpot on deviantART, and even fewer of you may be familiar with my works-in-progress blog "Crackpot's Couch" on Blogger.
I've been meaning to get on Tumblr for a while now, and now I've finally found a suitable excuse to do so: a self-imposed Monday-Wednesday-Friday challenge, also known as the MWF Challenge, or the "Many Works Finished!" Challenge. Basically, I'm challenging myself to create a specific, mostly finished, post-able piece on each of the following days based on different requirements:
Monday: A single figure, drawn with the goal of improving some aspect of anatomy or posing (or an object or animal, if I'm sick of drawing people)
Wednesday: Two figures interacting with each other, drawn with the goal of improving my ability to draw complex poses and spatial relations
Friday: Some type of environment, with or without a figure but definitely with a focus on creating a detailed and believable environment, drawn with the goal of improving same
Although I've been doing a lot of these kinds of things when sketching from life, I definitely need to practice doing them when creating original pieces, and I thought a sketch challenge would be the best venue for that. Though I may use some of my observational drawings and photo reference for inspiration, I will not copy any of the features of the models performing the poses, but instead will attempt to apply those poses to original characters of mine, or caricatures of friends or actors or historical figures, or the occasional fanart if I want it badly enough (with a self-imposed rule of no more than one fanart submission per week). The same goes for the Friday challenge, I'll try to create environments perhaps inspired by photos or sketches from life without directly copying. If I use stock photos as reference, I will try to provide a link to the original photo.
If I fail to meet any of these deadlines, feel free to bother me incessantly!
...And we're off!
