wizard watching a witch get burned at the stake: anyone else feel like there’s a lot of wizard erasure? wizards just don’t have as much visibility in society as witches. i’ve decided to call this phenomenon magicandrophobia.

cis lesbians be like: yes, trans men can be lesbians because they have a special afab girly girl female connection to womanhood. and “transwomen” can be lesbians because anyone can be anything i guess. i am a respected ally of the trans community.
rocky horror picture show is an outdated, badly-aged, bigoted movie from like 50 years ago. and if it was left at that, i literally would not give a shit in the slightest.
the problem is that people still fucking hold it up as some great piece of queer media and trans representation. people still go to rescreenings of that movie. cis ally parents still show that movie to their trans children.
and just by coincidence, the people holding it up are NEVER FUCKING TRANS WOMEN
they're not actually *lying* per se when they say that this is the queerest site on the internet. all of the racism and transmisogyny means that this place actually is a fairly accurate representation of the mainstream queer community.
Hello tumblr user t4t communist bimbo, i wanted to ask you a question because i would like to start a genuine discussion with you :)! You don’t have to answer me though, it’s completely up to you.
Honestly, and i ask this with no malice, why do you believe trans men don’t experience oppression? I’ve seen this take a lot and i wonder what the arguments are. Yes, “men” as a class are generally above women and hold more power over them, but that doesn’t matter when: a man of color’s masculinity is used against him; or when trans men are denied healthcare because it’s a “woman’s only space”; or when trans men are correctively raped, married off and abused to teach them “what being a woman is”; or when they’re denied transition all together because they’re just “confused little girls; or when they’re banned from sports because “uhhh T is technically a performance drug 🤓☝️”. This absolutely not to say that trans women aren’t oppressed, or that they have it better, because that would be a lie! Simply that i think talking about the different kinds of oppression can be valuable for everyone. (Hope this wasn’t too long lol, i just wanted to throw all my arguments in the ring before i forgot anything :3)
So, this is what we would call a leading question. I’ve never said that trans men aren’t oppressed. Obviously they suffer from transphobia. I’ve just said that they’re not oppressed for being men. Because misandry doesn’t exist.
Trans men are oppressed for being trans, but they are not oppressed for being men. Let me elaborate.
Transmisogyny refers to the intersection of trans women experiencing transphobia (which all trans people experience) and misogyny (which all women experience). Terms like transmisandry don’t work because they would refer to the intersection of transphobia (which all trans people experience) and misandry (which all men experience). The problem is, of course, that “misandry (which all men experience)” does not exist. If it did, then cis men would also be oppressed for being men, which obviously isn’t the case.
It’s the same with men of color, or disabled men, or gay men, or impoverished men, or the men of any other marginalized demographic.
I appreciate that you’re being respectful though :)
I know "media literacy" is kind of a buzzword nowadays, but it is actually insane to me how many people just approach any art or media as a completely neutral piece of storytelling that the creators clearly intended you to just turn your brain off and consume and genuinely don't even consider that there are any themes or deeper meaning whatsoever.
"That show isn't about forgiveness, it's just a story about someone forgiving someone else!" is a genuine viewpoint I've heard multiple times from different people about different pieces of media.
"i have [insert 'problematic' kink here] and i'm a sub"
"oh that's pretty weird but whatever floats your boat i guess"
"i have [insert *problematic* kink here] and i'm a dom"
"kill yourself disgusting tranny predator"
(putting on thinking cap) hmm i sure hope this says nothing about how we view sex and power...oh well, back to my dykefag toilet slavery!!
“kinkshaming is bad and arbitrary! we shouldn’t judge the consenting adults for roleplay!” mfs as soon as they find out you have one of the kinks they’ve arbitrarily decided is shameful and enjoy consensual roleplay they’ve decided is worthy of judgement
