Occa, I'm back on my bullshit.
You remember the post about aromatherapy in A/B/O?
Dick smelling hints of Bruce on Wally. They're so faint and obviously not a bond. But Dick hasn't smelled Bruce in a long time. Between the scent patches and the pheromone killer, he hasn't smelled a hint of the Omega in months. He's getting prickly, as is the rest of the Family.
The smell is driving him insane. He questions if the speedster is going to the manor often, but that wouldn't be enough with the changes. He'd have had to hug Bruce to do that.
But, on a space mission? In a spaceship? For a month?!?
Physically impossible.
Which leads to Dick losing his shit a tearing through Wally's luggage when they get to the Watchtower. They were there to debrief, and be checked medically, before going back to Earth.
Which is when he found the stuffed bat plush.
It reeks of Bruce. Of a maternal scent Dick just barely remembers. His thumb brush against the chest and he can feel a hard ball underneath. Flipping the doll over leads to the zipper. And pulling down the zipper, releases a smell of clean rain, not freezing or biting, not hot and muggy, but a perfect spring rain one could stand in for the entire shower. He looks inside, pushing the fabric to show a wool ball. The type one uses for laundry by putting essential oil on and tossing into the dryer with your clothes.
It was at this moment Wally walked in. "Dude, what are you doing? Why is my shit everywhere? Hey, are you...?"
Dick lets out the deepest, most territorial growl he's ever felt vibrate through his ribs. Teeth bared, lips drawn over gums, snarling. Clutching the little bat to his chest, possessive and so fucking angry.
Dick doesn't know what he's doing, but his vision is clouded red, his nose is clouded with Bruce's scent, and every instinct he has is screaming for him to tear the imposter apart.
"Dick— Dick!" Wally shouts, speeding out of the way when Dick lunges for him. "Oh, shit," he yelps when he tries again, grabbing for him, only narrowly missing. He slams a fist on a button and the door slides back open, and Dick slams into the wall when Wally speeds out and dodges again.
He bounds after him, tracking his scent through the halls, and gets a door slammed in his face. He punches the code into the keypad, and follows Wally for two loops around the Watchtower. Then his scent veers left, sharp with panic, and Dick snarls. He's heading for the meeting room. Bruce is there. He can't have Bruce.
"Batman, you have to stop Nightwing, he's—"
Dick slams into Wally's back, driving him down to the floor, and pins him down. He opens his mouth, spots the perfect part to tear out the intruder's jugular and—
He's slammed into the wall, pinned there by Superman, and watches Wally stumble to his feet. Both Barry and Bruce move to him, but the growl Dick lets lose stops Bruce in his tracks. Wally leans into Barry, giving him a wary look, and turns to Bruce. "He found the bat."
Dick growls louder at the imposter to Dick's pack talking to his mother, and Clark presses him against the wall harder when he writhes to escape. Diana appears, and watches him carefully as he snarls when she plucks the bat toy from his fist. He wants that back, it smells like Bruce, he deserves his mother's scent, no one else—
"He's feral," she notes, and Bruce takes a step closer, lips pursed. He's still too far away, Dick needs to protect him, he needs to come closer, Clark needs to let him go. He snaps at the other alpha, who easily leans out of reach so Dick can't graze him with his fangs, and he thinks he hears his bones creak with the force Clark is using to keep him trapped.
"Debrief, Flash," Bruce snaps.
Wally glares across the room at Dick. "This didn't happen on the mission. I found him digging in my luggage, he found the toy. Honestly, I think it's—"
"It's a Pup Challenge," Hal voices, also drawing closer, peering at Dick.
Bruce recoils, moving backwards. "It can't be," he rasps. "Dick isn't my pup."
The room raises a collective, pointed brow at the way Dick growls louder, threatening, and gnashes his teeth again. Wally must have sunk his claws deeper into Bruce than Dick thought. It's fine. He'll kill the imposter and he can have Bruce to himself.
"I told you," Wally grouches, "that they want you to be their mother. They're just repressed as fuck."
"They rejected me first." Bruce yanks the cowl back in frustration, pacing, and Dick fights harder. Now his neck is vulnerable. Mama's vulnerable, Dick has to protect him from the imposter.
"That doesn't matter, Spooky. Not when the kid, at the mere idea you'd scent Wally, regressed back to primitive instincts, and is ready to kill his best friend in order to protect his place in the pack from a challenger for your attention."
"He never did this with his siblings."
"You never scented them."
Bruce stares at Hal. At Dick. At Wally. Dick again. "How do I fix it?"
Diana joins Clark in holding him back. "You assure him his position as your pup isn't in danger."
"He's not my pup."
Dick's shoulder dislocates as he arches off the wall, fighting to get to Bruce. Stupid intruder, warping Bruce's mind.
"Will you stop saying that?" Clark growls, and Dick wrenches an arm free to swing at him. How dare he growl at Dick's mama—
Bruce catches his fist, cradling it in his palms, and coos softly, a quiet omega call. "Calm down, love. Ignore them." Dick calms slightly with Bruce so close. He's here now, he can protect Bruce from the intruder.
Bruce keeps hold of Dick's hand, tracing patterns with delicate touches, and turns his head towards Diana as they push him back towards the wall. "He is my child. Pup is a pack denomination. I don't have one."
Her gaze is intense. "Maybe it's time you join one."
It's silent for a while. "Get ready to run, Wally," Bruce says, and Dick tenses. He's still talking to the imposter. Dick needs to get rid of the imposter. He needs to kill the threat.
Clark and Diana let him go, and Dick launches towards the imposter, only for Bruce's arm to circle around him, pulling him back, and how dare he, he can't believe Mama would protect Wally—
Bruce scents him, and Dick freezes as a bond locks into place in his mind.
