Alright so, I really feel the need to address something I keep seeing in the tags of this post and elsewhere— partially because the paragraph in question is decontextualized (no shade to OP, not your fault or anything and thank you for sharing!). The article referenced is Supernatural and the Trap of Queer Tragedy.
To be clear, this article does NOT promote the idea that the queer characters or love story of Supernatural were completely unplanned or not actively advanced by dedicated members of the creative team.
When it talks about Supernatural rejecting the stipulations of its own foundations and actively choosing a path to reward its characters for their queer identities— who do folks think was making that choice? When it laments the silencing of queer resistance and storytelling, who was crafting that subversive story? The writers! The creative team!! When this goal was betrayed, who did that? Well, please see my previous work.
The point is that Supernatural’s queerness is complicated, that the mix of factors contributing to it is varied and messy.
It is a fascinating and tragic phenomenon; both unconscious AND conscious queer foundations, both creatives who resisted AND advanced the queer narrative, an interconnective audience whose queerness undoubtedly interacted with the show’s own sense of self and will. Accident AND purpose. This nuance can’t be stressed enough.
Some of its foundational queer narratives and themes, some of the deeply embedded and inherently queer mechanisms it relies on to tell its story may have been included unconsciously, or without full understanding of their nature. By a show’s fifteenth season, however, this unconsciousness is patently not realistic. Even in the earlier seasons, as extrapolated in the article, there are just too many pointedly queer elements included to claim ignorance.
I.e. ... the writers were not holistically ignorant of the queerness they were beginning to actively embed in their work. I.e. some of them (arguably most of them by the final seasons) built the queer narrative with intent; an intent which is thematically supported by an entire narrative of resistance against external control of storytelling and the repression of an authentic expression of the soul.
The trap isn’t just sprung on a story. It’s sprung on those who created it. It’s a control of our expression-- of how queerness gets to be understood and either punished or rewarded in a broader social standard-- but it is also a control of those who try to express it. It’s a punishment for those who do. This is the tragedy of the trap. The choice we are faced with is the same for queer creators-- the powerlessness of a trade between invisibility and loss.
Kindly please share this clarification if you can.
A drag parody of Sweeny Todd the Demon Barber soley to facilitate the parody of "City on fire! " so instead we can have the song go "Pussy on fire!"

Listening to discourse on cyberpunk is like:
"Oh haha that's a funny lil rib at the game for making a pretty obvious misstep in hindsight but not the end of the world (that can be fixed in a later patch without much fuss i would think if its wanted enough) .... Wait.... people are taking this seriously?"
"And... wow holy shit wtf were they thinking not even having proper warnings or an option to get rid of seizure inducing components to a major part of the game???!!! When they have so many other things on toggle!?!? The background design choices are baffling and yes pls make a big deal of this. Oh wait.... people are focusing more on the first kind??? When there are people who unknowingly endangered themselves reviewing a game and people who may have wasted their money on a game that can injure them irl??"
Ya'll really be dumbasses sometimes. Pick your battles especially when there isn't a fight to be had on some of these topics damn
