this or nothing (my liberation notes, episode 3)
finished watching ep 16 of twenty five twenty one last night and cried so hard i woke up my roommates
i feel like kdramas peaked between 2020 to 2022. think abt what was released in 2022. ofc there was twenty five twenty one but we also got extraordinary attorney woo, our blues, alchemy of souls, my liberation notes, weak hero 1, business proposal, reborn rich, the glory, little women, all of us are dead, juvenile justice, thirty nine, under the queens umbrella, big mouth, summer strike and narco-saints to name a few. i didnt watch but heard great things about adamas, connection, one dollar lawyer, cafe minamdang, military prosecutor doberman and green mothers club. it was also the year semantic error aired, the first bl to achieve mainstream success talk about a major moment in kdrama history. unbelievable to think we had all those amazing shows in one year
and before that in 2021 we had nevertheless (first mainstream kdrama w two sex scenes AND a lesbian love story all told thru the female gaze), beyond evil, squid game, move to heaven, vincenzo, hometown cha cha cha, d.p., taxi driver, our beloved summer, the devil judge, the red sleeve, my name, doom at your service, hellbound, yumis cells, happiness, the kings affection, lovers of the red sky and more
to set the stage for all of this in 2020 we got crash landing on you, hospital playlist, itaewon class, mr queen, its okay not to be okay, record of youth, start-up, sweet home, uncanny counter and smash hits like world of the married alongside weird stuff like school nurse files and dark edgy stories like extracurricular
all those diverse dramas in a three year span.. what a time to be alive. some of these have yet to be topped, many still live on ppls list of their fave dramas of all time
dont get me wrong there have been good shows since but that rly was a golden three year stretch
“Oh, well, you haven’t watched the big 3.”
I’ve watched the big 3.
I HAVE WATCHED THE BIG 3.
LOVE IS SIMPLY THE NAME FOR THE DESIRE AND PURSUIT OF THE WHOLE we are all trying here (2026) / my liberation notes (2022) / my mister (2018)
I hate talking about wounds. It feels like the language of the weak. But... that's what I'm doing right now. Whenever something goes wrong, I tell myself I was shattered back then, and that's why I'm like this now. I connect everything back to that time. But... If my life had worked out, would I still be holding onto and struggling with what happened then? Am I constantly bringing up my past as an excuse... for why my present situation isn't working out? How can you not bring up your past? Aren't you being too hard on yourself?
MY MISTER (2018) -> MY LIBERATION NOTES (2022) -> WE ARE ALL TRYING HERE (2026) writ. Park Hae Young
