im bored and cotl is getting a new dlc next year so it's time to plug in my hard-worked fic. hiiiiiii everypony did you know i have a brotherhood-era QPR shadowpeach fic which is inspired by Cult of the Lamb so instead of being freed by tripitaka, macaque goes for an organic approach and breaks wukong's seals by taking down their old sworn brothers? Tune in for the next chapter of the most doomed fratboy group ever here!
MY COMMISSIONED ART FOR Meanwhile the World Goes On IS HERE! feast your eyeballs upon this 👆 masterpiece by the wonderful Westywuzhere on twitter. closeups and additional info (chapter 6 spoilers) under the cut 👇
Macaque's outfit is his past outfit (there's no bestie breakup so Mac doesn't have an opportunity for a wardrobe change lmao). This is another visit after the one in chapter 6 so Mac has aqquired his new scarf/cape!
Long hair shadowpeach debut! This is literally a new thing i added because i love long/wavy hair lmao. i love the way the artist draws hair so much oughhhh. In the closeups you can see mac's scar and a bit of wukong's pupil. Intentionally, they are almost the same shape! kinda giving the "bright emerging sun >< dull collapsed moon/white dwarf star" vibes innit
The first broken seal! DBK's seal is the one under them, cracked in half and no longer glowing. Just imagine there were some runes on the borders for me ok? ok 👍
"wait," you said, "why is the chain on top of wukong coming out of the rock pillar?" you asked. That's because the chain connected to the seal above is actually plunged into the pillar, going through wukong's chest, then coming out and continuing its path :) when i was figuring out the logistics of of those chains i realised having it straight up piercing wukong would be a much more terrible, horrible and utterly delicious thing of me to do <3 Does this mean wukong's gonna have one hell of a literal heart attack when that seal (and chain) explode? yeag 💖
around the end of this month (that's my birthday!) or the start of May im gonna brainstorm the summoning circle and Suixin Jingu Bang's official design. I just know it's gonna be a long process bc i'm indecisive as fuck lmao. Can't wait to show y'all!
There is a burial practice in china and northern vietnam called cải táng/bốc mộ, where the grave of a loved one who was buried far from home because of circumstances will be exhumed after 3-7 years, when the body has finished decomposing and only the bones remain. A family member/partner will be the one who digs out the grave and opens the wooden casket, picking up the bones by hand and cleaning them, before placing them neatly in an urn to be buried in the family graveyard. It is the final act of respect in the burial process, reuniting the loved one with their family and praying for their blessing/divine protection to the living.
Tacking on my hc that the events in lmk's version of the jttw book may have happened in a slightly different order, isn't it weird how so many of wukong's old enemies are alive? We all know macaque died at some point in the journey but that should've also been the case for spider queen! And scorpion queen, and the hundred eyed demon, for god's sake even lbd and the camel ridge trio! Yet all of them are still living fine til the present day or suffer (almost eternal) imprisonment. Do you know how crazy it is that mac's death is the only death referenced in lmk?
In jttw the mac chapters are before all of the villains i mentioned (except scorpion queen which is directly before them hence my hc). Could it be that after witnessing mac's death wukong swore off ever killing his enemies again? the guilt of not being able to save mac would have eaten him alive.
Now this: if wukong had had a direct hand in mac's death (either forced to kill him to stop his magic going haywire or accidentally dealt a blow too hard), can you imagine the complex mac has risen out of his grave with? That after him, no one else was killed under the Great Sage's cudgel? That he was the final period at the end of wukong's list of casualty? That his role in the entirety of their friendship was to be a lesson?
it's SO funny that macaque's character introduction in the lego store is roughly translated as "he is strong in martial arts, ruthless, unprincipled, and will work for different masters for the sake of profit". and the picture is him smugly and incorrectly making a duck shadow on the wall (he has lego hands)
I made myself a s3 macaca! Based on the design of the monkey king craft box thingy, i bought like, 5 other boxes of other designs and frankenstein'd my own macaque! Took me three days and a whole lotta months before that to search for the right colours of the pieces, the end result is not the best but im pretty satisfied still
Gave mac a white eye just because, but you bet i tried my hardest with the clothes 😤
