(magicianapprenticelyra) James and your Lyra baking something together?
James helping Lyra with probably the BIGGEST wedding order she’s had to fill! She was so grateful for his help! Even if in the end Lyra was so burnt out she didn’t open the shop for a week or so. ∩。• ᵕ •。∩ ♡
But that’s a story for a future time! ;)
THANK YOU SO MUCH DEAREST FRIEND FOR THR REQUEST!!💞💝💕💕
In which the Scoresby-Barnes’ family enjoy a regular normal Saturday
( @nissaimmortal )
Bucky is on his run. I’m the only other one awake. Getting coffee. Jamie wakes, teleporting from his cot to the hallway and toddles into the kitchen. I smile as he pulls himself up on the chair next to me, smiling proudly at himself.
“Morning, kiddo. Breakfast?”
Jamie claps his hands. “Bubbles, please, Mama.”
I get up to pour him a bowl of Rice Bubbles. This kid can mind speak in full sentences, but he prefers using his voice. I don’t mind the normality of it. My other kids accelerated their growth a lot more than he has and I’m revelling in having a pretty “normal” kid. (Considering he can teleport…) Whatever that is. Hah.
Jamie grins as I set the bowl in front of him. “Tank ‘ou!”
I smile and kiss the top of his head. “Please use your spoon today, Jamie.”
Jamie giggles and proceeds to stick his hand in the bowl.
I shake my head. “Spoon, Buddy.” I touch the edge of his bowl.
Jamie pouts but picks up the spoon. I smile and sip at my coffee as I sit again.
Minutes pass and I sense Lee stirring so turn the kettle on again with a thought.
He enters the kitchen, rubbing sleep from his eyes, dropping a kiss to my forehead and tousling Jamie’s hair before going to pour coffee for himself.
“Morning, darling, Jamie.”
I smile softly. “Bucky’s still on his run.”
Lee nods as he sits next to Jamie who is once more using his hand to scoop food into his mouth. I smile, fondness filling me as Lee scolds him gently, moving the bowl out of his reach and picking up the spoon to proceed to feed him.
Jamie pouts.
Lee shakes his head. “Your Mama asked you to use your spoon. When you can do that, I’ll give it back to you.”
Jamie huffs but lets Lee feed him.
I tut softly.
The sounds of the rest of the house stirring start to filter through. Lyra and Lucinda come in first both looking for milky coffee, greeting Lee and I sleepily before rummaging in the pantry for cereal for themselves. Roger is next, book firmly grasped in one hand. Pausing to smile at each of us deliberately, before returning to his book as he gets breakfast for himself as well.
Lee hums morning to them. I smile, leaning back as I nurse my coffee just soaking in the peace.

Lyra takes the kids, including Jamie, down to the park. Bucky is back and we’re sitting on the couch watching the morning news. Lee slipped out to work on the ship, it’s Spring and he’s becoming antsy to fly again.
“News never changes…always so negative,” Bucky murmurs as he plays with the ends of my hair.
I tilt my head back against the back of the couch. “You were at war back in your day, couldn’t think of any worse news than that.”
His lips twitch. “Murder, high speed auto crashes, flooding, fires? Sounds pretty bad to me.”
I glance at him and reach out to stroke the stubble on his jaw. He leans into my touch. I linger there for a moment.
“Humans suck. And nature is wild.”
Bucky chuckles and nuzzles at the palm of my hand. “You can say that again.”
I gaze into his eyes then almost whisper, “You’ve been having nightmares again.” Not a question.
He holds my gaze not shying away from my statement and nods. “I didn’t want to bother you.”
I shift my hand to his chest where I can feel his heartbeat. “I feel them, James.”
Bucky tilts his head down, eyes clouding over. “I don’t want…”
I shake my head, stroking his chest. “I know. But, you don’t have to be alone in this.”
He clears his throat voice scratchy when he speaks again. “It’s so messed up, though…”
I tilt my head.
Bucky frowns deeply. “You’re in them…” He places a finger against my lips before I can react. “I’m the Winter Soldier…and you’re in them…” His eyes are grave. “I know it’s not real. But, you don’t need to know what they entail, I promise you.” I can tell by the darkness in his eyes he is serious, so I nod to reassure him.
“Thank you for trusting me, James.”
Bucky’s breath hitches and he nuzzles into the crook of my neck, lips moving against my skin. “Always, doll…I love you.”
I curl my fingers into his hair, craving closeness. His breath is hot against my skin, even as I shiver. Bucky hums and shifts to lay me back on the couch, settling over me, nuzzling more. I let out a soft sigh of pleasure as he proceeds to distract the both of us from the worries of the world.

Lee sits out on the ship cleaning some of the burner components. Hester is sitting on one of the cots, ears twitching as she listens to the birds and changing winds. Lee pauses and looks toward the window. Hester glances over as well.
“Think that’s a private conversation, Lee.”
Lee hums. “They’ll tell me if it’s necessary.” He goes back to his tinkering. Hester hops up to peer at what he’s working on.
“When can we fly again?”
Lee grins. “Not like you to be impatient.”
Hester scoffs. “Hey, just because I try to keep you grounded, doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the flight.”
Lee chuckles, sitting back on his haunches. “Oh, I know. You’re just usually more…reserved.”
Hester thumps her hind leg on the floor. “It’s been a long winter.”
“True.” Lee looks over to the window again. “Think Buck and Marly are both itching to fly too.”
Hester twitches her ears in agreement.
Lee starts to whistle as he works. Hester hums along with him.

“Jamie! Quit teleporting into the tree… Mama will be mad!” Lucinda stands at the base of one of the eucalypts in the park gazing up at her little brother. Lyra can’t help laughing at the predicament. But, pulls herself together and puts on her stern big sister voice.
“Get down here, Jamie Stephen Barnes.’
He shakes his head and vanishes from the tree to hide behind Roger who is sitting and reading his latest novel. (Oliver Twist, if anyone is interested. Cos this kid is into the classics.) Roger peeks back at him.
“Jamie…”
Jamie crawls into his lap. “Read, pease?”
Roger chuckles. “Okay, bro.” He turns to the next page. “Chapter 2, For the next eight or ten months, Oliver was the victim of a systematic course of treachery and deception - he was brought up by hand…”
Jamie cuddles into him. Lucinda and Lyra join the two boys and snuggle close to listen as Roger reads.
Lyra sat on the floor with Roger and Rey the three of them completing a puzzle together. From where I was sitting on the couch I could see it was one of Noah’s Ark and I smiled as they spoke in hushed murmurs to each other.
“That’s not where the elephant’s trunk goes, Rey..it goes in the middle.”
“Put it here.”
“No, it goes in the middle.”
“Just let her put it there, Rog.”
“But, that’s where the giraffe’s head goes.”
“No, that’s where the door of the ark goes.”
“How did Noah fit all the animals in the boat, Lyra?”
“Don’t ask me. Ask mum.”
A soft chuckle came from behind me. Lee was leaning over the back of the couch, tea towel hanging over his shoulder. He was finished cleaning up after our lunch. I glanced up at him and smiled a little.
“Hey, love.” He leaned in and brushed his lips against mine. “Whatcha doing?”
I pointed at the kids. “Supervising their puzzle endeavour.”
Lee chuckled, draping his arms around my shoulders, nuzzling into my hair. “How’s it going?”
Lyra looked over to us. “We’re trying to finish the elephant.”
Roger sat back on his heels. “Rey insists on putting the trunk in the wrong place.”
Rey grumbled in a way only a three year old can grumble. “Not wrong. Just different.”
Lee smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling as he did. “Clever girl.” He came around to sit on the floor with the kids. “Let me see.”
Rey shifted to sit in his lap. Lyra leaned her head on his shoulder, her long dark hair falling across it. Roger leaned over and pushed the puzzle closer to their father.
I sat back, just observing them and marvelling at how blessed I was with this beautiful family.
