My visit to Seimei Shrine
I was on my way to Kyoto when one random moment, I realized that Seimei-jinja is also in Kyoto. So I decided to take a visit while I was in town :3
It was raining all day so not the best weather, but the ambience at the shrine was still very nice (and I really like that the water for you to wash your hands and mouth comes from a ‘dragon’ fountain :D)
Two ema's that Yuzuru wrote and one of Shae-lynn could be seen very clearly, they are hung up high together with many other people's emas. While I was there, I saw a ~50-year-old couple entering the shrine and looking at the emas hung up high. Then the husband spotted Yuzu's ema and said out loud "Oh, it's Hanyu-kun's ema!" twice, and the wife came running and they both took a look at it together. It was a small moment I find very cute kyaaa~~ :3
I also took a look at the ema's hanging outside and there are a lot emas of fans wishing Yuzu to recover quickly and get the gold medal at Pyeongchang. Some decorated their emas with his photo and feathers, too :D The wish I wrote on my ema is that I hope he will be his strongest self and deliver flawless performances at the Olympics. I think Yuzu will be more than happy if he can take revenge on the flawed FS in Sochi. I hope all our hopes and prayers will come true! Yuzu, work hard and good luck!
PS: There were also several cute souvenirs and omamori - a kind of charm, and one of them caught my eye, the "katsumamori" (勝守), which can be translated as a Success/Winning Charm I think. It's said to help you win in sports competitions, tests (for school and work), against competitors and against yourself. I decided to get it cause it suited me the most out of all the omamori. Seeing how Yuzu usually goes to shrines to pray in the new documentary, I wonder if Yuzu also got a katsumamori for this year, that would be very cute :3

Various photos I took at the Biltmore Estate on the 4th. I love visiting and seeing the new displays and floral arrangements. One of my favorite painting is also on display in the house and is pictured above. Several costumes from various novel-based films were on display.

An Afternoon on Lawson Street
Upon walking along Lawson Street towards Redfern Station was amazed at how busy it was for that time of the afternoon (about 2:30/3pm). However, for the amount of people that walked by, in, or out of the station rarely did anyone glance at the mural. Not often do I catch the train from Redfern on my way home now, but when i did live in the area I always remember admiring the mural as I walked by.
Walking the length of the mural I had to respect the longevity of it. It’s obvious that the mural is quite old, yet each and every image and element is still so powerful and empowering. As out-dated as the idea of “40,000” years is as the amount of time Aboriginal people have inhabited the Australian continent, the following “long, long time... still on my mind” is still very relevant.
Upon interviewing a passerby what their favourite part of the mural is they replied that it was the depiction of the Aboriginal flag waving and the Sydney skyline in the background.
“The flag is enormous compared to the high rise buildings and it makes it feel really significant and powerful”
Looking at the mural again, I thought if a non-Aboriginal, non-local person saw the flag flying over the city as powerful, than surely the mural has much more important role socially and culturally in the community. After talking with them I visited the Aboriginal Housing Company, whose office is right beside the mural, and ask one of the workers what they thought of the mural and its importance in the community
“It’s a part of Redfern’s culture. You get off the train and it’s there, it’s in your face and you can’t ignore it. Being in such a high traffic area it is a daily reminder for Sydney commuters that Aboriginal people and culture is alive and thriving in and around the city”
Being Aboriginal myself, their statement was not news to me as I live and breathe Aboriginal culture, however I also know that in Australia there is a certain level of ignorance towards Aboriginal culture. Therefore, does this mean that the mural is an educational tool that removes the “if I can’t see it, it’s not my concern” attitude many Australian’s have? I think that based on it’s location and it’s history in the Redfern community, the mural provides perfect example of Aboriginal people’s resilience and pride in it’s culture. Expressing Aboriginal history and culture as it always has been done before - through art, and the modernity of the medium and materials only asserts the versatility of Aboriginal people and how the strength of a community can create amazing ways to continue traditions of storytelling and sharing history and culture to a wider non-Indigenous society.
I decided to take a nice visit to Mathilde's town Candycan today! This town is really really pretty! I love all the flowers! The rooms of her houses are really gorgeous, some of the best I've seen actually!! The dream address is 5500-2572-2199 you should really visit ( ´∀`)☆
To be happy.
