My Atlantic (INTERVIEW)
So today I "sat down" with, the two voices of the band My Atlantic, Jeremy and Jon to gain a little insight into their lives.
Explain to us, who is My Atlantic?
Jeremy: We're four over emotional, Jesus loving brothers who write songs together because no one else wants to hang out with us.
Jon: I would totally second that. Haha.
Jeremy: As much as it sounds like a joke, it is pretty accurate, haha.
Where do you find inspiration for your lyrics?
Jon: God, real life experiences, girls, haha. At least in my case! Everything is honest fully. And every song means a lot to me.
Jeremy: Life, really. As cliche as it sounds. I don't write anything I am not connected to. Whether it is something I feel God is putting on my heart or if it's some worldly struggle I face in my life. These songs are all letters, really.
Why should people check out your band?
Jeremy: I think we offer an honest style of music and lyricism. We write about things everyone faces in life. We put a lot of emotion into our music to make it easier to connect with. Our lyrics can also be great one liners to send to the girl you like, so I have been told. Hahaha
Jon: Because there's something for everyone here, we've been through a lot, and I think that's something people can identify with. If we make one person feel better about themselves then it's all worth it.
You're currently working on an acoustic E.P. titled "When The Lights Go Out", what can we expect from this release?
Jon: Emotion. Lots of emotional stories, stories of loss and love and faith. It's gonna be really interesting to see people's reaction. So far it's been amazing!
Jeremy: It's a very raw and real release. A lot of raw emotion in these songs. It's a side of us that we don't get to show as much with the electric stuff. The lyricism in it is a bit more poetic than usually because we don't have a lot to capture the mind musically. So it's very poetic, heartfelt letters.
And here's the portion of the show where we change gears and head in a completely unguided direction. Are you ready?
Jon: Totes ready
Jeremy: Bring it
Describe each other in 3 words or less
Jeremy: Hunka Man Love
Jon: Big Man Love
If you had the choice of only one food to eat the rest of your life, what would it be?
Jon: Sushi
Jeremy: Crab Rangoon, no question
What is your spirit animal?
Jon: the majestic mammoth
Jeremy: I never understood what a spirit animal was. But I'm guessing if I had one it would probably be a Velociraptor.
Tell us an embarrassing story from your life
Jon: I busted the crotch of my pants out in the middle of a show once, haha
Jeremy: One time at a show, I saw this guy off stage and I thought he was a girl. So I ask "her" if she wanted to sing with us. He wasn't ammused....
Who are some of your favorite bands?
Jeremy: Relient K, Mayday Parade, Parachute, MxPx, Blink 182, Stages and Stereos, Pearl Jam and Nsync
Jon: Relient k, Mayday Parade, Go Radio, Electric Wizard, Rush, The Grateful Dead, and Phish
If men are from mars, where are women from?
Jeremy: Well, if Beyonce is correct, girls run the world. So I am assuming this is their home planet.
Jon: The Bronx
What is your favorite cartoon and why?
Jon: Courage The Cowardly Dog, because he was such a thug
Jeremy: Caillou, my daughter absolutely loves it and it is a blast to see how excited she gets. I mean, it is meant for Canadian toddlers, but I'd like to think that at heart we are all Canadian toddlers.
What Harry Potter house do you belong in?
Jeremy: Gryffindor. I'm a Weasley.
Jon: Slytherin
If you could bring one band back that's broken up, what would it be?
Jeremy: Nsync
Jon: Underoath
What achievement are you most proud of?
Jeremy: Being a Father. Also, last week I ate an entire Pizza by myself. That was pretty cool.
Jon: Here recently quitting cigarettes is my proudest feat.
Alright, and one last question, do you have anything else to say?
Jon: I wanna say that I love Jeremy and Nico and Josh, and I'm super excited to see where things go in 2014!
Jeremy: I want to say thanks to everyone who has shared our music and felt it with us. Also, I love my band mates. God is love and if anyone of our fans or friends wants to talk just hit us up. I'll pray with anyone. Also, if you are going to send fan mail, make sure it includes coupons to Qdoba. Lastly, thank you to you Cody for the fun interview. LOVE YOU DUDER.
