Fleetscut the Salmandestron Hare from Lord Brocktree by Brian Jacques, a Redwall book. I like this character, he’s old and past his best but still carries out his mission. He meets a grisly end with his friend Jukka the Squirrel in the catacombs of Salmandestron mountain. It’s something Jacques did a lot, really lovely characters being killed off in combat, not shying away from the realities of war.
