Back in May a really nasty rash popped up on Riley's head. His hair fell out in patches. His skin flaked off. I contemplating cutting it all off. He begged me not to. It took 8 weeks to get rid of the rash. With school starting next week, we went to get a trim to even it out from it regrowing. It was straightened so it could be cut, something he never experiences. Now he can't stop looking at himself and playing with his hair in reflective surfaces. So. Today, everyone that has come in to contact with my happy child has mistaken him for a girl. Because he doesn't have a fade and is wearing a shirt that says, "feminist". I haven't corrected anyone, mainly because I am trying to raise a child who does not subscribe to hyper masculinity. So that when he is grown, he doesn't throw man-baby tantrums because someone insulted him. But he has corrected everyone. Explaining that boys can have long hair and that boys can, and should, be feminists.
