Big Name Fan
and yes a bit but no, not really. It's a general thing that pisses me off. Some things are just not on and I don't like that kind of attitude.
mycrofthholmes replied to your post: Oh, dear. Write with other people?? I could never. I get too self-conscious of my writing. Maybe when no one is there...
Oh, no one sees what you write. They just say 3,2,1 Go, and then everyone leaves the chatroom to write their thing and comes back in 30 minutes. And not everyone shares a sentence. Actually, not everyone writes. Some people use the 30 minutes to edit, or outline, or respond to comments, or do their bills. I think the main point is that you're promising to focus for 30 minutes. So. There's that. But I was scared of it for a long time, too.
I can’t imagine not working on stuff, dude. Once I finish this ao3 thing (SCREAMS I’M SO STUCK) then I’ll finally be free.
sobs and stares at document
Although I look forward in principal to having a break, that's not actually going to happen. I've got perhaps 6 other projects going, and the one sequel that I've been promising to finish for FOREVER. But... enough about me.
Writer's Block. Lately, I've found the #Antidiogenes thingies to be AMAZING. They do these 30-minute word wars, and you just kind of tuck in your chin and spew words for 30 minutes, and it's sometimes (often) painful, but I've always found that I've come out the other side with something worthwhile (generally) and often a new and unexpected direction.
And then, when you've sweated your way through 30 minutes of stream of consciousness, you can hunt through the torrent and find one decent sentence, and share it, and get your ego stroked by the others hanging out on the site, which is a SUPER positive reward.
Seems like they're usually active on weekends. Although, one weekday I was desperate to light a fire under my ass, so I got on, and there was no one there, so I did a little countdown for myself, set my timer, and then came back on [all by my pathetic little lonesome] and said how many words I'd just written to an entirely empty room. Oddly, it worked. Think I got out over 700 words that episode. Strange what rituals can be efficacious.
Hmm. Maybe there'll be some of that going on tomorrow....
