The heart for Nazak ouo
Nazak was glad they had the money to stay in town fora few days. Their last job left himfeeling magically drained and he honestly just wanted a break. It seemed like the rest of the group did aswell since there were no protests when he brought up the idea, so that wasnice. He hummed to himself as he walkedbeside his sister, having long gotten used to the odd stares they’d get fortheir status. But he had to stop whenhis eyes caught a familiar sight. Another Apostate mage that was granted permission to live in thetown. The magic flowed from her hands soeffortlessly. From the get-go, he hadalways been entranced by her.
“Nazak, just ask her out,” Mell teased beside him, startling him from his staring.
“Ask her out? Are you kidding? She’d never likesomeone like me.” Mell sighed at thatbitter edge that crept into Nazak’s tone.
“She does like you though, brother. Each time we’ve stopped here, you two havealways talked together and hung out.”
“I…” Nazakshuffled nervously as he tried to think of any reason not to approach her. He hasn’t had relationships or anything likethat before but… “I can’t.”
“And why in the Maker’s name can’t you? She’s a good person and you two would begreat together.”
“I can’t,” he replied more firmly. He had his reasons. She already made a living for herself and wasalready in a somewhat dangerous position for that. There was no reason to further endanger herfor his status of being a Vashoth Apostate.
“Nazak…”
“Leave it.” Hedidn’t want to discuss it any more. Yes,he did like her and yes, if she did actually like him, they would get alongswimmingly. But he didn’t want toendanger her. She deserved thatmuch. Still, he had to blush when hereyes caught his and she offered a bright smile and a wave. Nazak offered a wave back before he duckedhis head, trying to look like he was busy so he had reason not to approachher. Mell just watched after him beforeshe inwardly sighed. Nazak deservedsomeone, dammit. But he just keptpushing them away. She wished he’d stopbeing so distant and just open up. But,she couldn’t force him.
