My Lonely Life (The Talk), Part III
Parts I and II can be found under my itsanoriginstory tag. There are only three posts in it other than this one. Read ‘em if you want.
I saw a pain management specialist.
Apparently people with Fibromyalgia still sometimes have days with little to no pain? I’ve never heard this in over a decade talking about and studying it. That can’t be true, can it? It would have come up.
Long story short, I have a new diagnosis. Fibro has been thrown out the window and replaced with Chronic Pain Syndrome. This explains my previously unusually high pain level as Chronic Pain Syndrome takes every stimulus that travels to the brain and calls it pain. And to make things even better, they can be up to 5x stronger than normal signals. Or something. I’m sketchy on the science, but it’s something like that. My level of pain is no longer unusual.
I’m not really sure what else to say about it. There’s no cure, no 100% accurate “this is how it happened” origin story. Nothing has changed for me. My life is still... what it is.
I don’t know what to do with this information, either. I mean, it’s nice to have a label that’s a little bit better fit, but... Maybe I was hoping for some magical cure that would fix everything when I saw the specialist. Instead I got, “Conglatulations! Your entire nervous system is fucked! A winner is you.”
There’s still nothing to do about the interwoven fatigue, which is the thing tying me down.
Anyways, it’s a pretty significant moment regardless.
And there are some practical tumblr issues to go along with it. Or is that an oxymoron?
I’ll be dropping the Fibromyalgia tag from my posts and replacing it with Chronic Pain Syndrome. But I have no desire to go back through all my old posts and fiddle with their tags. Anything pertaining to my disease before this will still be under the Fibromyalgia tag.
And that’s it. I got nothing else for you today.
