Petition for Armand to dress like this in s3 not even gonna elaborate
Am I an Armand apologist if I don't apologise/defend his actions (aka directing the trial, lying about it for decades, wiping Louis' memory)? But I believe I am a 1. "Armand can do more fucked up stuff, he deserves it, in this fictional world" and 2. "Armand didn't do half of the things some of the fandom claims he did" like being the one to trigger Daniel's Parkinson in s1, being the sole decorator to dubai penthouse to keep control of Louis, being the one responsible for Louis' memory issues pre SF, only telling Louis his past to manipulate him, letting Louis in the sun long enough deliberately, ...defender
what makes me so sad about that whitewashed painting (as in all the paintings Armand posed for, I am sure) it's that Armand was always abused because he was beautiful... and yet even that beauty was not good enough to be portrayed in the paintings that could be displayed in people's houses, in museums centuries later. His beauty always came with a price and he can never be admired without having to pay it. Even those damn paintings he paid for and he still looked like they wanted him to, not like he was.
Armand's disingenuous dramatic sigh after telling Louis when he supposedly erased his memories VS Armand getting so so worked up when he was explaining himself to Daniel
Which could mean nothing
I think loumand decided to sort breakup after SF (calling it "we should see other people" probably instead of a break up). You all know what Armand did for the next 12 years. What do you think Louis did? I'd want him to have time to chill and find himself but judging from Dubai, he didn't do that. Anyway, in 1986, Armand found Louis and I think it was a mutual decision to go back together. Louis probably was like "how can we move on from 1973 tho?" and Armand went like "you know what I have an idea." (And he gets out the neuralyzer from MIB) and he erases that week. Does Louis agree? Probably not, I don't think Armand explained it to him, like he didn't explain it to Daniel. And ta-da! All's well cause their SF fight was their only problem. And I the trauma penthouse has a reminder of their 13 years old break up, too.
What do you guys think?
stop making two men of colour as simple one sided characters 2024, please. Armand isn't a twirling mustache abusive villain and Louis isn't just some helpless victim with no agency (or the other way around). They both have taken advantage of each other, they both have done bad things (and not only to each other), they are both product of their past, they both just want to pretend they are a happy couple, they both have decorated Dubai in their trauma theme. Recognize the complexity of the characters, they are written very well. The plot doesn't even make sense if they are as some people claim (quick example: if Armand had full control of their relationship and Louis was helpless, the interview would have never happened)
and I'm gonna say it, it's funny that most of the times when people have such views, also forgive and praise Lestat ("he loved Louis, so it's okay!") which is... you know, sus.
as others have pointed out, I definitely think a lot of people are ignoring the role Louis' drug addiction played in the Loumand fight. (I just don't get why some people think Armand was just angry for no reason and that even worse, he let Louis be in pain on purpose. And again Louis isn't some helpless victim trapped with Armand.)
I could write a lot about it, but the main takeaway, I think is that ultimately, Armand is acting like someone who has been in a relationship with an addict for some time now, and Louis has been trying to drown his grief in drugs.
I think if you rewatch it with this mindset, you see and interpret it very differently.
Just some points:
Their award winning fight highlights all their issues, but also the drugs, I think. For example: "Louis' tri-annual fuck off and find me with apologies to follow"
"I'm sorry lol" that part of the dialogue alone reminds me of the this will be the last time, I promise and of course they go back to drugs and disappear. And they get reckless and more reckless and so on. And they get meaner too, when they are high, when they need drugs again
It also doesn't seem like this was their first fight with Louis on drugs ("here come the drugs up the fangs, down this road"), just the worst.
Even Armand's anger towards Louis after his attempt reminds me of how some loved ones get angry with the addicts about their addiction and their actions during the addiction (look what you did to yourself, I really can't help you, you have to do it yourself). Not everyone holds their hand after an overdose or during the withdrawal.
Louis was healing from his burns, but he was also in withdrawal.
and this interpretation also means that both Armand and Louis are not really to blame and both are to blame (they could have handled it better). as with everything in their relationship, I think they were both awful to each other... and that they definitely broke up for a bit after.
Despite how I think he shouldn't have crossed that line, I do love Louis for calling this what it was, aka grooming.
Do we think that anyone else had given it a name before or after?
