I believe we owe you all an explanation...

    If you have been following us since we started, you know Maido as a fun store with a crazy ton of cute stuff. But what happened—where are the updates?          Let's start in the beginning—Maido has been in Japantown for over 20 years; the cute store has been open for over 4 years. We have been carrying Rilakkuma products as far as I remember!     After attending a local anime convention here, I convinced our VP that we just HAD to have them in Maido. At the time, NO ONE else had them in the US and they were just dang adorable.

    In April 2012, we also started to carry Arpakasso goods. Man did you all love that! Over the course of the year we ordered the newest themes to please all of you and we sold out of a bunch too! It was really good for the store which was previously always in the red. 2012 was a good year for Maido2!  We created this tumblr to keep you all up to date about orders and wot not. Feels good man.

    Right before 2012 ended, there was some discussion that some of our items that weren't following the regulations set by the CPSC (click to read about them!). It was determined that we needed to have certificates from our vendors saying their products are safe. While the American based companies have these certificates, the Japanese companies don't.          To get this certificate, these companies need to use a third party testing service to further prove that the products are safe. These tests cost about $1000+ for EACH ITEM (the labs need 6 of each item to test them). So if it was just an Alpaca with a new hat or Rilakkuma with a cute bow, they all need to be tested. Our store cant afford to do testing on our own, so we asked the companies in Japan if they would be able to partake in the tests.          So far we aren't sure which companies will be going forward with the testing. To avoid getting sued over these safety measures, we had to stop our orders from certain Japanese companies. This includes but is not limited to San-X / Amuse / Kamio / Crux / etc.          We are currently trying to see what we can do to fix this mess.  As far as we know, San-X's oversea profits are only 10%. As an employee of this beloved store, I don't want to stop ordering Rilakkuma goods *ugly sobbing* While we can't do anything about it, I'm sure a bunch of very disappointed customers can! These are the people who deal with the sale of Rilakkuma and other San-X products outside of Japan. You could tell them how you can't live without their products and how you would like to see them being sold overseas. With enough demand from you, hopefully they will be able to do the tests! Fingers crossed!

TL;DR VERSION

We wont be carrying San-X / Arpakasso goods for the time being. But that doesn't mean we are losing hope!

Hello dear! I was wondering if you've ever ordered alpacas from mymaido? And if so, how was their service and their paying methods. Thank you!

I have! Their service is wonderful c: I get my alpaca's so fast when I order from them since I live in the same state. They accept credit cards or paypal I believe. When I pay from them before I made phone calls to their store, but now they have them all listed on their website which is much easier. I hope you purchase from them, they are really wonderful people!

Kokuyo 2-Hole Punch and King Jim 2-Way Super Dotch Files

So, up for review today, we actually have three more items from Andrew over at MyMaido.com. He sent over the King Jim 2-Way Super Dotch Files with the Sept Couleur notebooks from last time, but forgot to include a 2-hole punch (you'll see why it was necessary here in just a minute), which came in a couple days later.

Well, we'll start with the Kokuyo 2-Hole Punch. Available from MyMaido for $9.95 (+ tax) in a beautiful metallic blue finish, this little hole punch wasily punched through upt to 20-30 sheets of notebook paper (no, I didn't count the pages, but I put enough paper in the "slot" that you couldn't fit anymore), even though the advertised amount is 10 pages. Also included is a small plastic rule which slides into the plastic "punch tray" and allows you to measure the paper correctly for your holes (although the only sizes marked are the European sizes, not US sizes).

As I mentioned, this little device worked very well, and I'm extremely glad that Andrew sent it to me, since it's an absolute necessity when it comes to using the other two things he sent me...

Next up are the King Jim 2-Way Super Dotch File Binders. These ecologically friendly binders are made from new raw material and recycled paper. Andrew was kind enough to send me one of the ones that holds 300 pages, as well as one that holds 500 pages. Each binder comes with 5 indexed organizer tabs, so you can keep track of different types of papers and projects (definitely useful for a college student like me).

However, the most interesting thing about these binders is the binding mechanism. Instead of the usual two or three ring binding system (the kind that causes your binders to bend and form around the clumsy rings), the Super Dotch binders feature a two ring removable binding system. This binding system can be completely removed in order to switch notebooks, and even can be removed from the binder altogether, to assure "classified disposal". Both binders measure 9.5" wide x 12" high and the 300 page one is 2" deep while the 500 page is 2.5" deep.

Maruman Sept Couleur A5 and B5 Notebooks from MyMaido.com

Well, for the first review on the new Pens'n'Paper Tumblr, we have some neat notebooks that Andrew over at MyMaido.com sent me! These fun, bright colored notebooks (hence the name Sept Couleur, which is French for "seven colors") feature vibrant, transparent plastic covers, a strong spiral binding, and decent quality paper.

The A5 notebook measures in at 5.8" x 8.3", and contains 80 pages of 7mm ruled paper (which comes out to 26 lines per page), while the B5 measures in at 7.3" x 10", and is also ruled at 7mm (which comes out to 31 lines per page). The line width is somewhere between wide and college rule, and to be honest, it seemed just about right for my handwriting (which can vary between microscopic and normal sized, depending upon my mood, lol).

When I opened up these two notebooks, the first thing that caught my attention was the fact that, behind the vinyl cover, there was a blank sheet of paper, which seemed to be a little bit heavier than that of the rest of the notebooks. One of my main qualms with transparent covers is the fact that anyone can see what's written on the first page of your notebooks, but with this one simple design innovation, that problem has been averted.

As for the paper, it's actually pretty decent quality. Is it the best I've seen? No... But it definitely stands head and shoulders above regular old notebook paper. Most of the pens (sans the rollerballs) did not bleed through, although there is a bit of show-through on anything with wet ink, so if you're a back of the page writer, this might not be for you unless you use pencils, ballpoints, or gel pens exclusively.

So, if you're placing an order at MyMaido.com, I would definitely consider adding these notebooks to your collection. The a5 weighs in at $8.00, and the b5 at $9.00, but I can say that they would probably be worth your money (son long as you're not fountain pen dependent).
