im so scared for vol2 because mike means so much to me and i adore him but if byler isn't real and he ends up not loving mike back i highkey think he's a horrible person and super mean friend because he has zero excuse to have been that mean to will if he's straight

hi anon! well idk if you've come to the right place or the wrong place, depends on what you want to hear i suppose, but what i will say is that i have spent a lot of time reassuring myself that things will absolutely be okay if byler is not canon. here's the thing. i 100% prefer the interpretation of mike as a queer character, and regardless of what happens in canon, i am going to continue to interpret him that way because he is fictional and i can do what i want. i will always have my version of him and i can either create fan content or seek out fan content that aligns with that. so whether it's another fan disagreeing with me about an aspect of my interpretation of mike or if the duffers end up trying to convince us he's straight, i will always have my own interpretation of him, and that brings me comfort. #mymike

that being said, i also don't think if mike is straight in canon that it would make straight canon mike a horrible person. yes, it would mean that at times he's been oblivious, insensitive, and too caught up in his relationship or his personal issues to always be there for will. but he is a teenager. we can't hold him to some impossible standard of never making mistakes or never being a dick. i don't really feel like writing a detailed defense of heterosexual mike wheeler, but i'll just say that while he's certainly fucked up in significant ways, i don't find a single one of his actions to be irredeemable. i think it would make for a much less compelling character, but not a horrible person. even if you disagree with me on that, at the end of the day you can always have #yourmike just as i have #my mike. canon is a suggestion, take what you like and ignore the rest. who's gonna stop you

one time when i was like 15 or 16 it was gojo satoru from jujutsu kaisen’s birthday and i (who was severely hyperfixated on gojo/jjk at the time) got so emotional and excited about it i sent myself into a panic attack and had go to the photography room to calm down during my art class. which.. is sort of how ive been feeling on this june 23rd
