Realization

Grocery shopping with my housemates tonight we came to a very important realization. Ashleekitty is the dormouse of our house. She sleeps all the time. At the drop of a hat. If that is the case, then I am the March Hare and Myrkrida is the Hatter. And I'm not the sexy cool Jagger Hare. I am the crazy goofy Mad March.

So here's some shoes I painted a bazillion years ago that I'm finally getting around to posting. Myrkrida and I decided that Gamergirlz needed something special for Christmas (cause she's a superstar, duh) so BOOM. Mad T Shoes for her. Picture quality doesn't really showcase how cool they came out but I promise you all that they not only SPARKLE WITH GLITTER PAINT, but they also GLOW IN THE DARK. Now we just have get that woman to finally see Mad T...

The fronts are Marchmouse by request. Sides are some other elements from the rest of the band and Alice in Wonderland in general. Acrylic and fabric medium on Keds. Also Probably my favorite pair of shoes I've painted to date :)

Happy Yule!

Happy Yule to everyone! I'm at my parent's for the holiday and have commandeered their computer so I could work on a gift for Myrkrida. I probably won't be on FB or any of my chat programs while I'm gone, but if you message my FB or here I should get it either via text or by checking Tumblr. Tumblr has become the new thing I can't go without checking!

Once I have this gift for Myrkrida figured out I can go back to working on my T Time Stories story and my next Fanfic Challenge. I think I'm due for an Absolem/Someone story, but that's weird since my latest T Time Stories story is Absolem. Well! We'll see what inspiration strikes.

So, even if I don't post anything new until Wednesday I hope everyone enjoys whatever holiday they are choosing to celebrate surrounded by family and loved ones! I love you all. Goodnight!

In Which an Explorer is Left Wondering

An Epilogue

The young explorer puts the picture frame back in the clockwork girl’s arms. She stands from the bench to kneel before the lonely doll and look her straight on. Reaching forward, she gently brushes her fingers against the doll’s porcelain face removing some of the layer of dust. She then hooks her fingers under the dolls chin and gently lifts it up, trying to imagine what the doll would look like had she been fully powered. But her imagination falls short and she stands, wiping the dust from her fingers. “Someone put a lot of love into making you, I wonder who it was,” the explorer says aloud to no one. 

“Coming!” calls the young woman, turning to leave the Imaginarium. Before abandoning the clockwork doll, she looks back once more and sighs heavily. She gently shuts the doors, leaving the silent doll to her ancient vigil.

Chapter Eleven

In Which the Fate of the Abandoned is Uncertain

Circa waited in silence for Gideon to return paying no attention to the shaking and trembling. After a long wait, she began looking through the items left behind on his station in the disarray packing had left them. There were the sketches and plans for other projects, as well as her own blueprints. Little trinkets were jumbled with tools and gear pieces. As she shuffled through the papers and paraphernalia, she found a framed portrait at the bottom of the pile. From the photograph, Gideon grinned brightly as he held aloft a colorful clockwork bird. Circa held it tenderly, gazing at the picture. 

Purefoy was about to go in and join them when the sound of movement drew his attention away. He wandered toward the Imaginarium, pushing open the large double doors. There he found Circa, having moved from Gideon’s work station, sitting on the padded seats around the phosphus power column. She was clutching a picture frame to her chest as she looked up at Purefoy’s entrance. She titled her head to the side and Purefoy gently shook his head. Her shoulders slumped forward and she held the picture frame closer. Purefoy shut the doors behind him as he departed and left Circa to her own thoughts. 

Circa sat, feeling Pyrocumulon tremble and shake beneath her. She did not move as she waited. Slowly, the green light of her corset panel began to dim. She did not move to charge herself, nor did she call for Cormorand or Colintette. She sat, absolutely still, and waited for Gideon as she clutched his picture to her chest. She stared ahead of her, the green in her eyes dimming slowly until all light was gone. 

There was one violent shake the rocked Pyrocumulon, causing the lower residential district to break off and fall to the Earth below. Then the shakes died down and stopped. Still, Circa sat, frozen in waiting.

Chapter Ten

In Which the Plan is Put in Motion

Lauresse and Gideon made it to the base of the mountain, finding fewer people and creatures as they went. Dragons and gryphons filled the air, mostly watching the activity at the edge of the city. The pair made their way into the main control center for steam power regulation. 

“Excellent,” Gideon replied. “I can rig together a phosphus device with these machines here. Since everyone is leaving, we can shut off the steam power to the island. Start sealing the popes, starting with the merchant districts first and leave the residential and air docks for last.”

“I understand.” Lauresse started shutting down the valves that funneled the steam from the volcano district by district. Gideon began disassembling unnecessary machinery and reconstructing a larger version of Circa’s portable phosphus device. As they worked and hours passed, the trembling grew, becoming more frequent and violent. 

“Is this working?” Lauresse shouted over the sound of metal bowing due to the pressure of steam build up. 

“I’ve just inserted my device into the system. It should start absorbing the phosphus.”

“Is there anything else we can do?”

“Nothing to do now but wait.” Gideon sat back at a valve station and watched the dials on the pressure gauges spin.

Lauresse stood over his shoulder. “Then, maybe we should go.”

“But, what if something goes wrong? We should stay and make sure it works.”

“Sorry to say this: but what if something does go wrong? Is there anything we can do about it now?”

“I don’t know… I suppose not.”

“Please Gideon. We’ve done what we came to do. If we can catch an airship, now may be our last chance.”

Gideon nodded slowly, but didn’t stand. “Very well.”

“Then what are we waiting for?” Lauresse said, grabbing Gideon by the arm and pulling him out of his seat. “We best just head straight for the airships.”

The ground moved violently beneath their feet as they made their way back to their air skiffs. The sky was growing dark as they began racing through the now barren streets on their way to the air docks. 

“Hurry,” said a dragon neither of them knew as he flew low overhead. “There is one last airship, but it won’t wait.”

“Thank you,” called Lauresse.

“Hurry, kin to The Professor. Your time is running short.”

“Did Baron Garn’s airship leave already?” Gideon shouted to the dragon. 

“Yes, I believe so. You will have to catch an evacuation ship.”

“That’s very well!” Gideon said with a smile.  

The dragon flew over their heads as they raced to the docks. They sped forward, the docks never feeling any closer until they could see them. As they turned down the main boulevard to the last airship they saw the ship disembarking. Still, they raced forward.

“No!” cried Gideon.

As they approached the dock, it became obvious they were too late. The gap between the end of the dock and the airship was widening further than the air skiffs could manage. But before Lauresse and Gideon could slow down, they felt a tight grip across their shoulders as their skiffs fell beneath them. They took to the air as the dragon scooped them up, one in each taloned leg. He carried them across the gap and dropped them safely on the airship’s deck. The crowd aboard that had seen the incident let out a cheer. 

Gideon and Lauresse got to their feet and grasped each other, struggling to catch their breathes and calm their nerves. Those nearest to them on the deck clapped them on the back, but the crowd quickly dispersed. 

“Are you okay?” Gideon asked.

Lauresse nodded, her face flushed as she looked Gideon over. “You okay?”

Gideon smiled. “I am fine.”

The two made their way to the railing on the side of the ship to watch the city as they flew away. There was a large roar and steam poured from the side of the mountain. 

“One of the pipes must have burst,” someone in the crowed cried. People moaned, watching the city become engulfed in steam. 

“We failed,” Gideon said, watching Pyrocumulon disappear in the haze.

“Maybe,” Lauresse said as she stood beside him. She put her hand on his shoulder. “Maybe not. But at least we tried.”

Gideon nodded, covering her hand with his. Lauresse leaned in, resting against his side before he put his arm around her. They stayed there, watching as Pyrocumulon disappeared into the clouds.
