Edit: weird, this was meant to be a post in the tumblr bugs community, not a post to my blog. It's fine, but strange.

#3452 - Myrmecia rugosa - Rough Bull-ant
Fairly common in Marri-Jarrah woodlands of the SW. I'm a bit uncertain whether it's found in other states or not.
Dan Shepherd Reserve, Baldivis, Perth
Giant Bulldog Ant
Myrmecia brevinoda
24/03/23 - NSW, Dapto
@lishd submitted: Here's a polite grey house spider (I think?) that I met shortly after arriving to New Zealand. Specifically, I found him on my neck. Hence the politeness. :)
And the bulldog ant I found in Australia. He was almost an inch long and used his giant mandibles to steal my heart. ^_^
Yes sure looks like a grey house spider! Or one of the house spiders in the genus Badumna, at any rate. THAT ANT THO. They have stolen my heart with their enormous mandibles too. I am mentally giving them a little smooch...
Deer in the headlights?
Myrmecia sp. ants are very mobile and aware of me, so hard to photograph, but a torch seems to keep their attention.

#2044 - Myrmecia gulosa-species group
Unfortunately I can't narrow it down past the gulosa complex, which includes some 42 species. If it's anything like the true M. gulosa and for that matter other Bull-ants, then they have excellent vision, powerful jaws and stings, and feed their sisters unfertilised eggs rather than regurgitate a meal.
