Do you and B still have a sailboat? If so, will you take Pep out with you in it in the future? How did you get your sailboat? What are your favorite sailing memories?

Sure do! After some debate, we’ve decided we will be putting it in the water this season and yep, we plan to involve Pep as much as possible. It’s gonna be hard this year, but it’ll be a great activity to get him involved in as he grows.

We bought our current boat in Massachusetts. We looked at a number of different boats for sale, but I fell in love with this one. The interior is set up differently than most. It’s a 36’ sailboat and has a bathroom & galley and sleeps 6. After we fixed it up in MA, we sailed her all the way back down to the marina where we currently keep her in NY, not far from home.

We owned one boat prior to this one which B’s father bought for $1 and we fixed up. Favorite sailing memories definitely include getting that boat seaworthy and on the water and taking his dad out for a sail. I have lots of great memories in this boat too: taking the helm for the first time, learning to work and trim the sails, anchoring the boat for fun days of swimming and grilling on the water. Jk, I’m just as dorky now. 😁

Hello! I’m back from vacation and just getting caught up on everyone’s posts from the past week. So much awesomeness! I was tagged for a selfie by @81welsh and @mystoryfortheaudienceoftheworld so please accept some vacation photo spam 😁

We flew into St Thomas last Tuesday and took a ferry to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. We chartered a boat from Tortola and sailed it around the BVI for a week. From Tortola, we went to Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke, Peter Island, Beef Island, and back to Tortola. The wind was way crazier than normal, typically 20-30 knots with 9’ (3 meter) seas, so we didn’t get to as many islands as planned. Next time.

It was a lot of time with my parents and we decided maybe this type of adventurous vacation with them wouldn’t be a good idea again in the future, but we had a wonderful time nonetheless. We snorkeled a lot, enjoyed swimming in the amazing teal water, visited some fantastic bars and restaurants, and got to see the restoration since Irma devastated the BVI in 2017. All in all, a good trip! And just long enough. I’m happy to be home and back to normal.

Really looking forward to getting back into a healthy eating routine and back to the gym, too. Two days of work and then it’s a three day weekend for me. Let’s do this!

Labor Day Weekend

Well, that's a wrap. Labor Day weekend has come to a close. What a great one it was, though!

Saturday we travelled to Syracuse for my cousin's wedding. It was beautiful and they're the sweetest couple. The weather was amazing. I got my hair and makeup done at a salon, totally out of character for me, but fun nonetheless. A great time was had by all.

Sunday was very rainy, so it was good that we just spent the day driving home from Syracuse. We stopped at the women's rights national park along the way which was inspiring and a great way to break up the drive.

Monday, B and I spent the day sailing and enjoying some more amazing weather on the boat. It was SO WINDY. We had our first experience with overloading the sails which was a fucking thrill, and then slightly terrifying, and then hilarious afterward. We handled it just fine, which is also a confidence booster. Once we realized we weren't able to dump the wind properly, and we couldn't turn it into a jibe either, we headed into the wind and quickly furled the jib. We had that boat laying over on its side like I've never seen it and spent a good while doing 7+ knots. I know this isn't a sailing blog, so probably you're like ugh whatever who cares, what are these weird words?, but IT WAS FUN! 😜 (Photos to come!)

Now that the summer has unofficially come to a close, B and I have made a pact that beginning today, we're doing this whole healthy-fit-weight-loss thing together. We bought a rowing machine. Grocery shopping and meal prep will be done today. LET'S DO THIS.
