House of Vans- Waterloo

Located at what was previously the Old Vic tunnels, House of Vans is a hub of skating, music and art. They have skate sessions available that are free and open to all. They often host various events that you are able to purchase tickets for and some events are even free. These include live music, talks and workshops. There is also a café, bar and cinema space. 

I first visited as a result of winning free tickets in a ballot to go and see US rapper Schoolboy Q. What I found most surprising about this venue is the intricate network they have managed to set up in such a deceivingly small space as it appears from the outside. It is so well thought out and each corner you turn brings a new surprise. The main point to stress is that it is just an incredibly cool place to be. Soaking up skate culture whilst mixing with good people. I highly recommend you to go and see this space when visiting London. It makes for a really fun night out.

Kingston upon Thames- By the River

Kingston is a town situated in Greater London and this Riverside walk is one that I have found to be refreshing.

This is one of the spots I find myself at the most. I think the reason I like it so much is because you can come with here with £0.00 in the bank and feel like you have had a nice day out. In the summer it is particularly beautiful as many people gather playing music and having a drink whilst looking out on the river at the Swans and boats. Truly picturesque. There is a really nice pub called ‘The Ram’ directly by the River which is always good vibes and you can scrape together some pennies for a cider or pint. However if you walk down alongside the river you will observe a lovely network of many other restaurants and bars. I have probably been here at all hours of the day and each time brings a whole new story. 

My favourite facts about Kingston are:

- It is home to the oldest surviving bridge in London called ‘Clattern Bridge’. It is named this because of the sound horses hooves make when they passed over the bridge. 

- Rock legend Eric Clapton is apart of the Kingston university alumni

- Sculptor David Mach commissioned his work ‘Out of Order’ which can be seen close to the station and consists of old telephone boxes tipping against each other in a Domino effect.

Richmond Upon Thames - By the river/Richmond Park

Richmond upon Thames is a town situated in South West London. Although, it can be quite unbelievable to think of yourself as being in London when you are in the middle of Richmond park peering at deer roaming a large open space. 

The Spot by the River is particularly lovely to sit/walk by. In my opinion, the views are nicer than those in Kingston as you seem to be a bit more tucked away here. 

A particular memory of mine that treasure, is the one photographed below. After a stressful day at university, my good friend was waiting for me by the River after work with a pint and we sat and watched a busker for so long by the time we left we knew the words to his original material. Watching the sun go down here is a replenishing experience and one that can be cherished alone or with a friend. 

My favourite facts about Richmond are:

- Home to the largest park in London (Richmond park) which is three times the size of New York’s Central Park

- Celebrities such as : David Attenborough,  Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Tom Hardy have all lived here

- It is a very popular destination for filming and many films have scenes which are shot here including : Never Let me go, Hot Fuzz, Bridget Jones 2 and Bend it like Beckham. (more info on this here)

Another stroll through my charming city, more details of my favourite spots. These traditional wooden carved masks on the first photo are called "Caretos de Lazarim". I absolutely love these! The house covered in era and other plants, is an inhabited, adorable little house, near where I live.. just love these details!
