Nevaeh wasn’t used to this feeling, the quiet knot of nerves settling low in her stomach, unfamiliar and unwelcome. Normally she was loud, fiery, the kind of blonde who filled space without thinking twice whether it was with strangers or people she’d known for years, her confidence a constant hum beneath everything she did, but this was different in a way she couldn’t quite name. It wasn’t shyness, not exactly, but a strange uncertainty that kept tugging at her, the unsettling awareness that she didn’t know how the other woman saw her, and somehow that mattered more than she wanted it to. It set her slightly on edge, made her second-guess the easy charm she usually leaned on without effort, so instead she turned toward the bar, ordering herself another drink just to have something to do, something to steady her hands and give her a moment to breathe. When it came, she lingered only a second before gesturing the bartender closer again, her voice smoother than she felt as she nodded subtly toward the pretty woman nearby. “Hey,” she said, forcing a small, easy smile back into place, “can I get her one too? If she wants it.”
